this is a tough one since i can not scan the phone because the phone storage drive is now not showing up on the computer when i connect with the usb cable

is there a danger of the virus infecting the simm card as well as the phone?

can it be spread to another cell phone if i put the simm in another cell phone

i will try to find a way to connect the phone to a computer

try and scan and remove virus but it doesn't look hopeful, see above

maybe bring it to mbk to see if someone there can fix it

any ideas how to fix a cell phone infected with a virus that came from a computer via the usb hookup? (i was uploading photos at internet cafe) :o

thanks in advance

I'll move this to the technology forum but yes, the SIM can be infected to, I believe. Do you know what the virus name is?

If the phone has an memory card, take that out, place it in an card reader and scan that card with your computer.

For the phone itself, download the latest firmware from Manufacturer site and "update" your firmware, or overwrite the existing one.

The phone memory you can scan with special phone AV software on ly. That software exist for Symbian and so on.

If your phone is an Nokia, take a look at the Download Section of Thaivisa, there is some software for that.

Cheers.

Most of the phone viruses spread via bluetooth, if you have a symbian phone you probably have Caribe or something like it, very common in Bangkok. Getting rid of it is a bit of a hassle, but just google a bit fixes are out there.

if the phone just mounts as a USB drive I would imagine it would be susceptible to the autorun virii that plague USB memory peripherals - I had to fix a mates mp3 player that had the problem.

a hard reset will fix the phone - though it will go back to as new condition and you will lose all

no luck so far

to 'restore factory defaults' from the settings menu i need a password

i have a manual for the i-mobile 611 with a password of 1122

doesn't work, this is an i-mobile 609

tried searching on line and found 3 digit passwords

clearly the phone calls for more than 3 digits

tried the i Mobile website with no luck whatsoever

tried search for manuals on line with no luck

hmmm

any ideas?

i have also tried scanning the phone and micro SD card with no luck detecting the virus or the internal phone hard drive

thanks again

is the i-mobile 609 a symbian phone?

what is a symbian phone?

a brand name?

if that is the case then this is not symbian.

it has been mentioned i can download / update the phone's software

or a fix

any details?

i am stuck

I find the idea of a virus for the iMobile pretty odd.. What makes you so sure you have a virus ??

Try 0000 for the unlock.. May be a default..

If not take a note of all your numbers and go and have the phones software reflashed in a phone shop.. Couple hundred baht and will wipe everything.

make sure you have backed up all your phone numbers

you need your folder options set to show hidden files , then look to see if there is an autorun.inf file on the phone or card - if there is an autorun.inf you will probably need to open it in notepad and look at what exe file it says to run , then you need to delete both the exe and the autorun.

autorun on windows is a security risk

also on this Viet forum it has quite a few reset codes for I-mobiles

http://www.online10phut.com/forum/viewtopi...&highlight=

but no codes for hard resetting your phone - you might be better off going to MBK and having them to do it for you

i think its a virus because i had problems with the phone right after i connected to a usb port

i was not able to view the phone drive via 'my computer'

then had problems using the phone

the main problem being

one can not hear the phone user (mic) when making/receiving a call (can not be heard on the other end of the phone call)

it is also acting strange/unusual in other regards

none of these problems occurred before

0000 rebooted but it still has the same problems

probably will resort to a professional (at mbk)

thanks all

a smart bunch online here no doubt :o
