Parrot On My Balcony?

Featured Replies

Anyone know what kind of bird this is? We have been feeding it croutons and water, it doesn't seem to be scared of us at all (maybe it escaped from someones room?)

Try the plants, pets, vets forum, as they have some knowledgeable folks on birds in there.

Consider grapes and fruit instead. Croutons are not good for such animals.

Good point, maybe the Mods would consider moving this thread to the Pets forum for me?

It is a Cockatiel, a very common cage bird. They sell them behind the SuperHiway Tesco. Very tame.

Dustoff beat me to it.

Most probably escaped from somewhere.

Parrots eat fruit and nuts (pumpkin seeds are much appreciated).

good luck

Had one that looked just like the photo when we lived in Oz it was a great little bird, taught it to whistle part of the tune from "The Bridge on the River Kwai" Fed it mostly grain (a parrot mix) and some fruit. It flew all over the house. Did not have the heart to clip it's wings (big mistake) one windy day he was sitting on my shoulder and I forgot he was there, step outside and he flew with the wind. Never saw him after that. The Cockatiel is a very nice bird.

put a couple of ads up around your area or buy a cage

He (assuming it was male) flew away :o My wife was "playing" with him and got a bit too close and he flew away to a nearby tree...oh well. I left some seeds and water out, maybe he'll come back.

At least we know what kind of bird it is now, thanks everyone.

Why do I always hear people feed animals unnatural foods?

What are they thinking?

Do they want them to end up with all the diseases of modern man or what?

Please feed animals what they are meant to eat...natural food!

keep and feed the toxic croutons to yourself please....the birds and the rest of the animals will be better off thanks

The croutons i gave the bird were just oven dried bread (no flavorings/chemicals etc...).

thats a bit rude dont you think?

at least he had the kind heart to give a crap about the bird and feed it in the first place.

I bet you lead a great life dont you. miserable pratt.

Is it a 'talker' or is it a 'jumper'?

This is not a native bird to Thailand so clearly an escapee.

The Cockatiel is also known as a Weero and is an Australian native.

It's very common and ranges across most of the country.

Nice looking bird,

"polly want a cracker" comes to mind, Oh wait a cracker is made from the same type ingredients as bread and croutons I don't want to poison him.....

Good on you for trying to look after the new family member :o

Apo, I would think you have never been to Thailand if you feel MSG is poison as its in ( almost ) every food item here.

It is a good idea to be careful what you feed it. A lot of birds don't tolerate salt very well--at least in the amounts that are sometimes added to human foods.

By the way, I have squirrels in the attic, but then it's probably OK, because the house is full of nuts!

That bird goes very well with lightly-fried potatos...

What a stupid comment, not everyone has the experience or the knowledge to know exactly what to feed a strange or exotic animal or bird, they just follow their heart and a love for living creatures, :o Nignoy

Yeah but was it WHITE bread? We all know how toxic that can be. :o

I had one come by the other day and, not wanting to feed it anything I wouldn't eat (like fruits or vegetables), I gave it part of my BK Cheese Whopper.

It has been just lying there on the floor for some time now but I am not worried because that is what I do sometimes after eating a Cheese Whopper.
