May 12, 200817 yr uk/american visas in bkk are stupid expensive, about b5k for get this...one month. the only place you can get more than 1mo is hkg. i have it on personal info - a friend that was working in china and LEFT within 72 hours that the whole process has gone south. he reported as early as a month ago issues with th elarge visa services. whether its general mafia-commie paranoia, xeno-nationalism from the olympics or was directly related to the torch. my friend a decade veteran of china says the chinese have become very anti-western (and he is fluent in mandarin). i have 'tried' to go there for fifteen yrs, just cant do it... good luck ps: i called and spoke with some idiot at the chinese embassy and he would only speak to me in thai or chinese so i only got about 60% of the coversation. he also told me i could come up and beg for a longer stay (i think he said to window 5 ?????) :-)
May 12, 200817 yr I have been going to China for about 8-9 years now. US citizen, and never had a problem. I have no idea why you would have a problem going there after trying for 15 years. My family has come for visits in China, and never had a problem getting a visa. I know that they have clamped down recently, due to problems with the torch, and dalai lama, but it is mostly in the way of refusing multiple entry visas to US citizens. Maybe harder to get longer than 30 days, but should not be a problem to get a plain old 30 day tourist visa. Visas for US citizens always cost more. Visa for US citizen to India is more also.
