July 29, 200322 yr Hi! My husband was born in Thailand. He and his mother came to the United States when he was very young. His mother lost all of his paper work such as his birth certificate and other documents. Someone we know told us that in order for us to be able to buy lands/properties in Thailand, we must have either birth certificate or a thai citizen card. We were wondering if someone could possibly tell us how we can go about this matter. Can we get a copy of his birth certificate from the hospital? Any help with this matter will be much appreciated. Thanks, Bo
July 30, 200322 yr He must request the birth certificate in person at the local amphur where he was born. The hospital can also be helpful in some cases.
July 30, 200322 yr Author Hi George- Thanks for your reply. One more question... do you know the length of time it would take for them to process the document at the amphur? Thanks, Bo
July 30, 200322 yr I believe you should get advise from the official consular office serving your area of the USA as am not sure if just a birth certificate, without an ID card, would be accepted for land purchase (even if the law allows it) and if this birth was many years ago there may no longer be paperwork available and alternate proof may be required. If he is still of military age remember that registration for service is required here if he declares himself a Thai citizen. Would not want you to make a special trip here only to find it is not available or can not be used for what you want.
July 30, 200322 yr Author Thanks lopburi. By any chance, you know where the official consular office that are serving USA area is? Thanks for all your help. -bo
July 31, 200322 yr There are four official consular posts in the USA so it depends on the state you are living in. If you click on this link it will take you to the Royal Thai Embassy page listing them: Consular Districts in USA
