Dental Implants In Chiang Mai

Anyone had any reasonably recent experience of getting a dental implant in Chiang Mai? As with most areas in Thailand there are loads of dentists to choose from but personal recommendation is usally the best way to go. Just had a filling done by a guy near the moat and it's okay but he seems a bit 'old school' [including his equipment!] which concerns me in getting him to do an implant -- as did his quote at 70,000Baht as that seems to me a Bangkok or farang [or both] price. It's a molar tooth by the way.

Any recommendations?

Experience counts a lot when it comes to implants, an awful lot.

You don't want a dentist who does them occasionally, but someone who specializes in the procedure.

Implants are expensive by both Thai and foreigner standards, and if there's not enough demand for implants in Chiang Mai for that specialty to develop strongly, then heading to Bangkok may be the best idea, just as you probably would for a more complicated surgical procedure.

Grace Dental Clinic for sure does them and is one of the more expensive in CM; however, they do have the most up to date equipment and sterilization procedures and are highly recommended my many in CM. I just had to molar crowns done there two months ago. Dr. Korakot (the owner) is a doll, very nice, speaks perfect English and runs a very smooth ship. All appts were on time and the staff very professional.

I have been to this clinic a few times, and have had very good experiences. Small fillings, cleanings, just routine stuff. Dr. Korakot is very good at what she does. A filling came out and she redid it a year later at no charge. The equipment was more advanced that anything that I saw in the West.

I asked her for a quote for some implants. I forget the prices exactly, but I got the staff laughing when I said I could by myself a nice condo for that price.

I have to get an implant in the next few months, and I have been going to the Chiangmai Dental Hospital for years, so they seemed the obvious choice. I was quoted 50 to 55 thousand baht.

I also note that the Bangkok dental hospital if offering the same service for 40,000 baht which might be worth exploring as they are doing it daily.

The point about ample and frequent experience seems a good one. Does anyone have knowledge or experience of the implant specialist at Grace? (In general I have a good impression of Grace too, ie Korakot, equipment, etc - but vis a vis the particular dentist on the particular job at hand, this has varied.)

I too will be committing to a couple of implants in the next month or so and so was very interested in Maejoman's referral to the Bangkok hospital - I'd be most grateful for further info. (Incidentally, MM, I'm afraid my experience at Chiang Mai Dental Hospital was terrible, not to say horrific; but I'm loath to openly mention names there.)

Now you've gone and ruined my day War zones I can take in my stride, but when it comes to dentists, I'm a devout coward. I've been looking for any excuse to get out of this.

You might try looking at Ratchada as well, they are doing "specials" at 39,000 baht

That "special" seems to be for the implant screw alone; the abutment and crown are extra.

There are different brands of implants out there -- some well known and some not -- and if you have a problem 10 years or so down the road with a not so well known brand of implant you may have problems finding a dentist familiar enough with it to fix it, especially if you're living in a different part of the world at the time.

And at the well-known and reputable Dental Hospital on Sukhumvit Soi 49 in Bangkok, implants run an exceptionally expensive 120,000 baht for implant screw, abutment and crown. Don't confuse the "real" Dental Hospital with clinics using similar names.

I had one done by korokot and her implant specialist dr jarunee trained in germany about 5-6 yrs ago when she was at cm dental hospital. Before she was on her own. Think i paid about $7-800.00 back then total everything. was a titanium screw from states which was most of the expense if i remember. Did not feel a thing from start to finish was also a molar lower jaw done.

last year was feeling a little loose so i went and saw here at her new place (grace) and she pulled the file said she gauranteed it and that they can come loose over time. drilled out the cap got out the torque wrench made it tight and fixed it. no problems at all.

I think she is probably quite expensive now to pay for her new digs and latest equipment over in neimenhaimen (spelling)....... but very pleasant woman and staff......

Don't choose the dentist by the smile. Implants are not tooth cleaning or fillings, you need a dentist that has had enough experience doing them. Best thing is to have an oral and maxillofacial specialist do the surgery.

There are many implants, some are good and others are of very poor quality. So check what type of implants they use. Among the good choices would be Nobel Biocare, ITI Straumann, ... Make sure you don't end with some low quality Pakistani implants...

And, when you compare prices - make sure you look at all-inclusive prices. Many clinics and hospitals will only quote the cost of the implant itself but not of the crown which may add another 30,000 baht. Altogether, about 60-70,000 baht is the reasonable cost for good quality implants.
