My wife and I just found out she is pregnant and we are going to go for the first doctor's appointment this week. I want her to go to Bumrungrad and I was wondering if anyone have any recommendations on which doctor to see.

Nice 1 JMR congratulations, i must say though my missus is nearly 8 months pregnant and we toyed with the idea of going to bumrungrad hospital but decided that the local clinic is just as good and way way cheaper no way would i pay those price especially for the delivery..but personal preference i suppose..good luck though

My insurance covers 8000 USD per year for maternity so I figured that I might as well use it. Bumrungrad has been recommended but when I went online to make an appointment, there were just too many doctors to choose from. Anyone with any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Would help to know if you have any special preferences e.g:

- would your wife rather have a woman doctor?

- are you wanting to be present at the delivery (not all Thai doctors are used to that/comfortable with it)

- are you wanting "rooming in" or other special arrangements like a birthing suite (i.e. as opposed to the traditional deal where she delivers in a delivery room and baby is whisked away to a nursery)

- any strong feelings/preferences regarding anesthesis, natural childbirth etc?

The other point to keep in mind in terms of that $8000 is that, while it is much more than you need for a normal delivery, it's not that much should there be complications so don't go for a place that will charge a fortune for normal delivery unless you're ready to pay out of pocket if more proves necessary.

Bumrungrad has a rep for a higher rate of c-section than medically necessary. (Actually so do private Thai hosps in general...but it is osmething to think about when choosing a doctor).

Bumrungrad, although they have a delivery package priced on par with other hospitals of the same category (Samitivej, BNH, etc.), they are much more expensive for everything that comes before and after. So normal pregnancy/delivery there will use probably half of those 8000$, not leaving much in case of complications...
