Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in... Mods, pls feel free to move it!

I am posting here on the offchance that somebody who is from Hawaii or has relatives/business there may be able to help... :D

My landlady requires a 1 bedroom apartment with private bathroom and private kitchen for herself and her 2 young sons (4 & 6years old) for July and part of August (6-8weeks).

She is getting quite desperate as one of her sons is already enrolled in Summer School there. Any assistance/suggestions gratefully received.

The town is Makiti in Hawaii.

Thank you in advance. :o

Makiki is probably the largest neighborhood in the urban portion of Honolulu. You might have difficulty locating a short-time rental, because the neighborhood is full of local workers and students from the University of Hawaii. Waikiki is much more geared to short-time rentals. However, you might be able to locate something on Thurston or Punchbowl Streets. The best source of apartment rentals is the Honolulu Advertiser, and you can search their Zone 2 rental classified ads (covering Makiki and Waikiki) here: Honolulu Advertiser rental ads (Zone 2)

2 months in wailkik in a furnished 1 bed apt should run one $1500 per month, maybe more if only for 2 months.

hawaii aint no bangkok when it comes to renting an apt.

Thanks for the responses so far. Just angling to see if anyone has any relations that rent out apartments or knows of any 'word of mouth' places that aren't always advertised????

My Landlady has had no joy with the Honolulu Advertiser so far and has made a bit of a boob as she has paid for the summer school upfront and is now having REAL probs finding accomodation. Particularly as one poster mentioned that Makiki is a University town so accomodation seems to already be taken. :o

Big Txs in advance if anyone can assist! :D

im a bit confused.

she willing to pay up she get apt. fast. she not she can sleep in park . aint no respectable agent gonna rent to a person 8ooo miles away 4 two months. she does sound like bit of a boob. no offense to the lady, im sure she very lovely.

hawaii very small, well priced housing rent in a day or 2. and you better be there in person to submit deposit.

in hawaii if apt dont rent for 1o00 $ one month you dont see it advertised 4 1500$ the next. little thai humour!

In response to your post.....firstly, she is a respectably married lady with 2 young sons. She is hardly going to sleep in a park!

I said she "made" a bit of a boob. Please refrain from commenting about somebody who you know nothing about.

FYI, nowadays there are such things as banks and bank transfers in which to send deposits etc.

lighten up.

you tell me she going to compete with people looking 4 decent apts at decent prices with people who can be there in 10 minutes to reserve an apt. in hawaii lots of respectable people sleep in parks.

she can have her pick of the overpriced ones im sure......lol.

if u want to help u do need to state what she is willing to spend.

Try craigslist also. I was actually looking at houses in Oahu yesterday on craigslist to get an idea of prices.

Txs steelepulse for a helpful post. She has been calling various people listed on there but no luck so far. Hence my attempt to help her by posting on here on the offchance that any TV posters owned accomodation there, or were from there, or had any recommendations etc.

Txs again for your suggestion. :o

When I did travel nursing in Honolulu I dealt with Mary Reed with Map Vision Inc. She has rooms in the Waikiki Banyon Building. Two years ago I paid $1350/month with $1350 security deposit. Call Mary at 808-971-0109.

Good Luck,

Mike

Island Colony I believe is just studios, Banyon has 1 BR but you are in Waikiki, better off in Makiki (3-4 miles from Waikiki). Craigs list is good source for Makiki, ex-wife bought 5 unit apartment building ($1,000,000) with divorce settlement may have opening in July PM for her e-mail address if needed, a little early to book July and August on Craigslist.
