Man City Vs All Stars Tickets

A pal wants to buy a couple of tickets for the game this Saturday. Where do you buy them from? We've tried Thai ticket master and Thai ticket major, and tried googling for the teams and the stadium, but no luck. How do we find out how well the tickets are selling and what's available to buy? Do we need to be searching in Thai?

Cheers.

This from the MCFC Thai web-site http://www.mcfc.co.th/index.php

City arrive in Thailand next Wednesday (May 14) and the first match, sponsored by Club partner, Singha Beer will be played on Saturday May 17 against a Thai League All-Star XI at the Rajamangala National Stadium. The stadium is the biggest sporting arena in Thailand and holds in excess of 60,000 seats. Please note that no tickets for either game will be sold from the Club – tickets will be available at the venues.

So it looks like tickets only from the Rajamangala National Stadium

I would have possibly gone if the game had been played at the stadium behind MBK. It's just too much hassle to get out to Rajamangala from the city centre if its pissing down with rain. For the Thailand v Iraq game last season it took over 2 hours to reach the stadium from downtown. :o

A few of us are heading down to watch the game, but it's not much hassle from our neck of the woods. Should be entertaining for obvious reasons.

Attendance prediction: 3

You, me and Mr. G!

See you tomorrow.

Thaksin to City's rescue

Presence of owner revives interest in the Premiership club's visit to Kingdom

Manchester City had a first-hand experience of the club owner's popularity when the lack of interest surrounding their visit was wiped out by a pro-Thaksin Shinawatra wave yesterday.

City, the first foreign club to visit Thailand since 2005, had failed to fire the imagination of the public despite the connection with the country.

Even though the City are not a favourite in this football-crazy nation, few could have imagined the kind of reception they received, with just around eight supporters to welcome them, at the airport on Wednesday.

This lack of interest was a far cry from the attention showered on their league counterparts, Manchester United and Liverpool, during their tour to the country, which saw hundreds of fans scrambling to get close with their favourite stars wherever they went.

However, the listless atmosphere marring the City visit was not visible at the launch event of the club's first store in the country, on the second floor of Shinawatra Tower 3.

A chorus of "Thaksin Fight! Fight" greeted the former prime minister when he made his way into the building. Securitymen seemed to have a more difficult time clearing the way for Thaksin than the group of the City players led by manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Even with Thaksin seated, there were still scenes of chaos as people jostled to get a glimpse of him.

Thaksin appeared in good mood throughout the event and the sight of him chatting with Eriksson made for a good photo-op, given the speculation surrounding the Swede's future. In fact, Thaksin even expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance in their first season under Eriksson.

"I acknowledge that Eriksson did well in his first year with the club. He managed to haul the team from 14th place last year to ninth this season.

"We had been as high as fourth for a while but we then slipped down because some of the first-choice players suffered injuries," Thaksin said.

Although a meaningless game, the way the Man City players played, suggested a very unhappy bunch of people. They looked like they didn't want to be there at all.

Didi Hamman makes me look fast!!

Man City suffer defeat on Thailand tour

Thailand Premier All-Stars 3 Manchester City 1

Manchester City suffered an embarrassing defeat to Thailand Premier All-Stars as Sven-Goran Eriksson's reign threatened to end in a whimper at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.

Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo struck his first goal for City but the All-Stars responded with two goals in eight minutes at the end of the first half of what could prove to be the penultimate match in Eriksson's spell as manager.

The hosts added a third midway through the second period in a poor performance by City which is sure to have further dismayed owner Thaksin Shinawatra.

The former Thai prime minister is conducting a review which has resulted in speculation over the future of the former England manager, whose first season as a Premier League manager resulted in a ninth-placed finish.

However, City were yesterday awarded a Uefa Cup place next season after qualifying through the fair play table.

That European place could yet earn Eriksson a reprieve and enable him to retain much-coveted players like England defender Micah Richards - one of a number of first-team regulars who have not travelled on tour.

Thaksin opened a club store in the Thai capital yesterday and reiterated his desire to make City a global brand but the public failed to respond and the 65,000-capacity venue was sparsely populated for the so-called 'Super Match' - the first game of the two-match post-season promotional tour of Asia.

City nearly paid the price for their nonchalance in the energy-sapping heat when Sarayoot Chaikamdee breached the offside trap before firing wide.

However, the tourists exposed the hosts' own frailties at the back to go ahead after 22 minutes.

Martin Petrov's deep cross from the left was knocked down by Darius Vassell to Caicedo, who was allowed to turn 10 yards out and tuck the ball into the bottom corner.

The All-Stars levelled eight minutes before the interval.

FA Youth Cup-winning captain Ben Mee was caught out of position in the centre of defence and Fabiano capitalised, latching onto a through-ball from Tawan Sripan to loft the ball over the advancing Kasper Schmeichel.

Mee's poor first half was complete when he slipped one minute from the break to allow Tawan to coolly round Schmeichel and put the All-Stars ahead.

Caicedo headed against the crossbar from Kieran Trippier's right-wing cross before City's three Thai players - Suree Sukka, Teerasil Dangda and Kiatprawut Saiwaew - were introduced for their debuts with 26 minutes remaining.

Kiatprawut was out-jumped by Tana Chanabut nine minutes later as the All-Stars claimed a third.

Teerasil thought he had made amends for his compatriot's mistake, but his header was ruled out for a foul and shortly afterwards he fired over when clean through.

Is anybody taking along a Thai flag with Thaksin written on it ?........ :o

My personal wish is that nobody at all turns up.

But then again I'm a bit biased ....... :D

Man City fans who want to get at Thaksin have only to turn up at each home game in the UK with a Thai flag sporting a Thaksin slogan. He really is in trouble in Thailand when this happens. I suggest "Thaksin for King" as starters!
