Farangs may not be blamed but why are we targeted for the huge fines. If littering is illegal in Thailand as it should be then Thais should be subjected to the same fines.

:o can't disagree with you.

but bear in mind that this is a developping country only.

I sometimes carry around empty bottles and trash for hours (like an idiot) trying to find a trashcan.
true. that's why I look around first before I litter. :D

Compared to London, Bangkok has rubbish bins aplenty. (down to the IRA sticking bombs in them admittedly...)

People simply have to get used to carrying their trash around...

...i was escorted to one of them little jail cells they have right there on the sidewalk infront of all the giggling uni girls. the officer pointed to a sign in the jail booth that said in thai script i was to pay a 2000 baht fine for littering !...

If everyone here in Phuket would have to pay a 2000 BHT fine for littering (which most of the deliquents couldn't afford) it would be a great benefit for the environment!

I would approve sanctions against littering if the law would be binding for all.

Some fines in the UK are scaled according to one's income. The idea is to equalise the pain inflicted - the fine is not meant to be a licence fee!

When the law was introduced a couple of years ago, all kinds of action was taken.

The best I do remember, 2 police-offices on motorbikes, one to drive, 1 to take a video with a comment: "We follow Benz or BMW driving with open window. Sooner or later the driver will throw out something and we got him". :o

Let's face it, the law is ok and everybody is subject to it.

The fines Baht 200-2000 are ok and should reflect the pain (Richr W said it similarily for UK)

The law-enforcement? Same as always in LoS, we can't change it.

So only one advice: "Dont do it".

Don't do what? Litter or get caught? Up2U
