17 year old girl allegedly abducted in Bangkok and brought to Pattaya.

A bizarre story now from Pattaya Police Station. On Wednesday Night, a 17 year old girl presented herself to the Daily Logs Clerk and claimed she had been abducted in Bangkok and brought to Pattaya by a group of men who intended to sell her to foreigners on Walking Street.

The girl began by explaining that she was waiting for a Bus at the Morchit Bus Station in Bangkok and intended to go to Utaradit Province in the North of Thailand to see her boyfriend. She claims that as she was waiting for the bus, a man came and sat beside her and placed something over her mouth which caused her to pass-out. She woke up and found herself in the back of a minibus in Pattaya.

There were about 5 or 6 men in the private minibus and she heard them speaking about selling her to foreigners on Walking Street. At a set of traffic lights, the girl was able to escape from the minibus and she then made her way to the Police Station. Police are not entirely sure if the story is correct and suggest the girl may be simply looking for a free ride back to Bangkok, however a report of the incident was made and Police are looking into the case further at this time.

come on, for a 100baht fare back to bangkok, nobody wants their name to be splashed all over the newspapers.

most probably the kidnappers did not realise that she has already woke up from the chloroform and did not tide her up

wasn't there a similar story about a year ago which turned out to be one big lie.

Yes, I recall last years 'victim' claimed she was kidnapped and gang raped. The truth was she came to Pattaya with her 'boyfriend' and when she didn't put out, he ditched her. She was worried that her family would find out she went willingly to Pattaya so made up the abduction/rape story to 'save face'.

Does sound pretty hokey.

I highly doubt a group of 5-6 men would kidnap a girl in Bangkok, to drive her to Pattaya, hoping to sell her to foreigners in a place that already has 10's of thousands of women. Oh yeah, and it sounds like these guys never layed a finger on her during the trip from Bkk to Patters (she apparently never mentioned being sexually assaulted by the 5-6 men) ?

That would have been a lot of time and expense (and risk), for not much reward (1,000-1,500 baht split 5-6 ways). Surely they couldn't have expected to "sell" her to a foreigner, and expect that foreigner to bring her back (or her to report back to them afterwards).

There are a lot of dumb people out there, but this, if true, would rank way below plain dumb, and more into the mentally challenged category.

No mention in the article about a description of her abductors, only mentions a "private minibus" ? I guess the 5-6 guys must have robbed her at least. After all she was waiting for a bus to take her upcountry at the time of the "incident". Surely she had to have had some money on her ? How many people travel even a short distance without a penny in their pocket ? And she seems to have been able to escape pretty easily. I would think that 5-6 guys, who would be facing kidnapping charges at least, would have been able to stop her from suddenly jumping up and out of the "private minibus" ?

Back in the home country, the police would duly investigate, but if they found that the girl was lying, she would be charged herself (for making false statements).

This has to be the same incident, only reported by a different "newspaper" (Pattaya People).

Remember in the OP, from the Pattaya City News, the girl claims "she was waiting for a Bus at the Morchit Bus Station in Bangkok and intended to go to Utaradit Province in the North of Thailand to see her boyfriend"

She then went on to say that she was drugged and woke up in Pattaya, in a van with 5-6 men who were going to "sell" her on Walking Street. She managed to escape and get to the police station.

Compare that to the Pattaya People article:

"She explained that she had been visiting her sister in Bangkok and was about to get on a bus to go home to Kanchanaburi (where the famous bridge is) when a van with about 10 men inside pulled up beside her and dragged her inside. She stated that they must have drugged her because when she gained consciousness she found herself alone in the van on of all places Walking Street in Pattaya"

Of course, it is quite possible that two different girls were abducted on the same night, at different bus stations in Bangkok, drugged and taken in vans to Pattaya by large groups of men. It could be merely coincidence that both girls seemingly managed to escape without difficulty and make their way to the police station, and that neither vehicle or group of men could be found afterwards.

Or it could just be another shining example of our wonderful local media coming up with considerably different versions of the same story, as they often seem to do.
