If you could find a general electrical repair shop, and I would be surprised if there was not

one locally, that repaired starters, generators etc., the small brass brushes or diode bridges

or other little parts that often go bad inside are not expensive. It should not cost more than

a few thousand baht to fix it. 16k? You can almost buy a secondhand motorbike for this? :o

A good shop should be able to make you a new mounting bracket for another alternator with a similar power rating & use your old harness wires to convert. this is a very old trick used since the 50's in race cars in America. the Thais are pretty crafty. It is easily done if they can get you an alternator that matches your amp rating. Check their welding jobs they have done first & if they don't use connectors & crimps or at least bullit connectors, look for a qualified shop.

The usual black electrical tape on bare wires does not cut it. only asking for heartaches.

I would think that an alternator out of a tour van would have a 100 amp limo style alternator or a little less. Your escape probably is around a 60 amp or so.
