Apology Ritual Blamed For Historic Castle Vandalism

'Apology ritual' blamed for historic castle vandalism

BURI RAM: -- Vandalism carried out at the historic Phanom Rung castle in Buri Ram on Monday was an act of specific groups based in the province with superstitious believes, the park chief says.

Quoting police, Dusit Thummaphorn says a group of five that conducted a socalled "apology ritual" at the site on the Visakha Bucha Day is the mostly likely suspect.

Police now think the vandalism resulted from disputes between park staff and three groups - sellers of Jatukam Ramathep amulets, owners of two shops and those affected by strict park rules.

Dusit says 19 items were destroyed - four are original artefacts and the others replicas. He cannot tell what type of ritual was conducted, but what was left at the scene indicated a possible "apology ritual". He did not go into detail.

Buri Ram police are looking at a "number of superstitiousminded groups".

Governor Santhad Jattuchai says police should have a better idea this week. Security at the Phra Viharn park in Si Sa Ket has been beefed up following the Phanom Rung castle incident.

Well that puts several recent PM's in the frame then.

"Well that puts several recent PM's in the frame then."

Puts us all in the frame, considering the strange beliefs and rituals that we have concerning pieces of paper bearing pictures of dead American presidents!!

Superstitious minded people--well that puts basically anyone who believes in religion in the 'suspect' category.

We can't go on together, with superstitious minds.

We can't go on together, with superstitious minds.

And we can't build our dreams

On (suspicious) superstitious minds

Think they (the vandals) need to be working on a brand new 'apolgy ritual' - from inside metal bars!! And what happened to the security in the first place?... these people just walk in with lump-hammers and have themselves a party? A bad do when Thais are showing a total lack of respect for ancient monuments in their own locality!!

out of 19 items 15 are fakes .... that's the real problem .... where are the real items ...? in a British museum ?

"concerning pieces of paper bearing pictures of dead American presidents!!

You mean the good ones?
