Four Thai People Allege Police Corruption

Just after 2:30 on Wednesday morning four Thai people, two men and two women, walked into Soi 9 police station and approached the daily logs clerk to register a complaint that they had been robbed earlier in the night of a substantial amount of money and goods by a team of police officers. The four, who all live together in a house on Soi Buakhow, claimed they were all at home when approximately five men wearing civilian clothes knocked on the door of their residence and told the occupants they wanted to search the dwelling.

The five claimed they were undercover police officers and even though they produced no forms of identification or any search warrant, the four occupants allowed the group to enter and begin a search of the premises. The occupants told the daily logs clerk the allegedly undercover officers had found some yah-bah tablets and told them if they paid a sum of 300,000 baht straight away the officers would overlook the drugs. The occupants agreed and handed over the money, which they just happened to have had lying around.

The undercover officers then left the house and disappeared into the night. Just after, the four house occupants noticed that a diamond ring allegedly worth one million baht had gone missing. AT this point they decided they needed to go to Soi 9 station to register an official complaint. The police talked with the complainants for more than two hours and called in a number of their plain-clothes officers. None could be identified by the complainants and it may well be that the house occupants have been the victim of an elaborate sting by local criminals rather than police.

Is it just me, or is anyone else having difficulty feeling sympathy for these people who have illegal drugs, 300,000 thb and a ring valued at 1,000,000 thb in the house. If you swim with sharks - expect to get bitten.

Why isn't this in the jokes forum?

victim of an elaborate sting by local criminals rather than police.

I thought that was the funniest part. The sting was about as difficult as taking candy from a baby.

The Pattaya Ring Sting, I always put it down to the chilli's :D

The Stinging Ring of Fire ! :D

I'm sure the BiB realised pretty quickly that these 4 weren't exactly your average everyday citizens (and they admitted they had yaba in the apartment ?).

Wouldn't be surprised if people they had been "dealing" with set the "sting" up. :o

Would be even less surprised if a week or two down the road, the real BiB didn't do the same thing (probably kicking themselves right now for missing out on a lucrative opportunity). :D
