A Novice Seeks Advice On Connection To Wireless Router

Featured Replies

Good afternoon,

I bought a D-Link ADSL2+ 2640T Wireless Router to connect to the TOT account. Everything is working fine. I used my notebook to install and connected with the Ethernet cable.

Apparently, another notebook (my son's) got the signal as well. I have no problem at all. Things were working great!

When I disconnected my Ethernet from my notebook, the system seems to deactivate, "network connection unplugged." (I plan to transport my notebook somewhere else). (The wireless card does not seem to work or senses any signal.)

What set-up do I have to run, in order for me to allow my notebook to recognize and get the signal from my wireless router? (My notebook was a primary host, when installed from the CD.) Sometimes, I would like to use it in front of the porch, instead of my work table. I know that it should not be involving with a lot of set-up. Thanks a lot from an old man here....

Take care..

There should be an icon in your tray by the clock representing a wireless network connection, something that looks like a monitor with waves emanating from the right side, perhaps with a red X as well. Try right-clicking that and select "View Available Wireless Networks"

Just a thought, your notebook wireless is turned on isn't it?

THIS!!!

I had a very embarrassing experience with my Thinkpad when I was insisting that the WiFi was broken, until the helpful sales guy slid the little switch on the front across and bingo! :o

I saw what you have described. However, the computer could not locate my own network. It sounds strange. I am very certain that there is a wireless card and it is turned on. (802.11g.) Thanks.

May you go to Control Panel ->Administrative Tools ->Computer Management ->Services and check that the service for the WiFi is started, or even is available anyway!

Cheers.

...My notebook was a primary host, when installed from the CD.

The OP disconnects his notebook and the entire network goes down? Something about this statement raises my suspicions. Also, I am not familiar with the term "Primary host" as it pertains to setting up a network. (D-Link terminology?)

Is it possible the OP may have unintentionally set up a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network?

I have the same router - sounds like your wireless is off - switch it on. if there are any wireless networks nearby where your laptop has worked before try those as well.
