Just come back from a holiday to holland, visit to parents, with my wife.

I also needed to apply for a non imm O visa, based on marriage.

At the embassy the first question, after seing my appliction, are going to work in thailand?

yes I said, the huy from th embassy replied: "you cannot work with a non O", I answered I already have a workpermit with my non o.

"you have to apply for non B" the guy said. I told hom that I didn't bring the right paperwork with me for a non imm b guess what his answer was: No problem come back tomorrow.

Next day I had a non b visa, unbelievable here in asia you need a shitload of paperwork and even then you run the risk of being denied a visa and in holland they are almost gving them away(okay the fee is 120 euro for a multiple entry non imm).

Same in UK. They took photocopy of my tax card and within 5 minutes I had my 1 year non-B renewed. Cost me 90 pounds, a smile and have a good trip.

But I wouldn't have altered from No-o to Non-b, even if the monkey behind the desk thought it was needed.

Now you will make the extension process harder for yourself.

Who has been talking about extensions? Certainly not the OP, who clearly said that he got a new multiple-entry non-immigrant visa. If he wanted to live in Thailand on extensions of stay, he would obviously have applied for it in Thailand before going on holiday.

Aside from that, an non-B visa does not make it any more difficult to apply for an extension for marriage, if that is what somebody wants to do. With any type of non-immigrant visa it is exactly the same procedure.

:o I don't inderstand what you are complaining about?

I assume you are complaining.

The rules are clear...you are not allowed to work in Thailand without a business visa and a work permit (a non imm B as you called it).

Since you apparently have a work permit already you must have been sponsored by a Thai company (assuming you have a legal job).

The fact that other Thai consulates are "giving away visas" as you claim (except you did pay the fee, didn't you) doesn't mean that because you got a visa in Holland made it was correct. Did they know you were going to Thailand to work when you got that visa in Holland? Did you tell them that? They should have given you a non-o B visa, a business visa.

If you got a non-o visa, not for business purposes, from Holland and they knew you intended to work in Thailand, then they were wrong.

You can work on a non immigrant O visa - what is required for work is a work permit and that can be issued for those here on such a visa.

If you are going to start having a dig, it helps if you know your facts first, otherwise you look a bit silly :D

If you read what I posted I'm talking about than WHEN [if] he will do an extension later [...] being on a Non-O is better (easier) than a NON-B, if he can choose. So switching is [was] not in his best interest.

Please explain why you believe application for extension of stay will be harder using one type of non immigrant entry visa than another.

It's higher salary requirements for Non-B extensions than family-income req for Non-O [spanning two adults].

But a person can still apply for an "extension of stay" based on marriage with a "B" visa. So, what would be the problem?

Not true. After arriving on a non-B visa – in fact after arriving on any type of non-immigrant visa – one can apply for an annual extension of stay for the reason of living with Thai wife with proof of 40k monthly family income.

From paragraph 7.17 of Police Order 606/2549:

In the case of a family

member of a Thai

(applicable only to

parents, spouse, child,

adopted child or child

of his/her spouse):

Permission will be

granted for a period of

not more than 1 year

at a time.

(1) The alien has obtained a

temporary visa (NON-IM); and

(2) Proof of family relationship;

and

(3) In the case of a spouse, the

marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto;

...

(6) In the case of an alien married

to a Thai woman, any party or

both must have a total income

of not less than Baht 40,000 per

month...

It seems that you wrongly believed that after entering on a non-B visa if one wants an extension of stay this can be only for employment. In fact, it can also be for living with Thai spouse, among several possibilities for extension. One of the requirements is a non-immigrant visa, ie any category of non-immigrant visa.

I believe the point of the thread was the OP saying he was amazed that Thai consulates in western countries give Non Imm “B” visas with much less paperwork then in countries close to Thailand. This is a well known fact, often mentioned on this very forum. More amazing the OP did not know it then the fact itself. :o

I knew that getting a visa in europe was more easy but that it was this easy, having not the right paperwork and still getting a visa.

but no complaints have a new visa and can stay another year, but will now go for the extension of stay.
