So does this mean that the custom of selling apartments (condos) with a 30 year lease that would be automatically renewable for another 30 years and then another is now impossible? And are existing such leases invalid?? I only ask because in the mid- 90s, I was offered such a lease on Phuket, and a friendly, helpful and honest lawyer friend warned me against it, saying that it was a workaround, not actually enshrined in law. At the time, certain people told me I was "being a wuss" and "that's how it works here - just go for it" I know gloating is unpleasant but 30 years later (a very relevant timescale), here we are.....
