English Translation, Police/medical Check

Hi,

Thanks to this forum im feeling pretty confident about our prospective marriage visa application!

I just have a final couple of questions.

Can some one suggest where we should go to get my Thai gf's documents translated to english in Bangkok?

Also

Where should she go to get the police check? do you need to go through the visa department to get the police/medical check or can you do it prior to the application?

My fiancee is heading back to Thailand ay the end of June, she will be taking all the relivent info for the application with here.

She will then apply at the start of August, and i will get to Bangkok mid August for 4 weeks for support.

What is the chance of getting the visa approved in that period of time? (assuming we have no set backs with the application)

The police check and medical can be done in advance of lodging the application. If you go to the immigration website you will find the list of hospitals in Thailand that do the medicals. You will need to call the one closest to you and speak with them about a time to have it done. There is also a form on the same website that gives you the address for the police check and what she needs to take with her. This will then sent to her at her nominated address. There is no need to translate these documents.

With the translation of your gf other documents ie. birth cert, tabien bahn, etc there is a translation service on the ground floor of the building where the visa application centre is. I used them and they were comparable in price and everything was done overnight. I also had to use their quick translation service for a document and that was back within the hour. Price was a bit higher for that one.

We had our application approved within a week and my family is now out here in Oz with me in sunny Canberra.

regarding the police and medical check,Is there a specific time frame for this to have been done b4 application?

my g/f is in thai now for 10 days then will be comming back to oz for 3 months,on her return with me to thai we will be married and

will submit the spouce visa,so coould we get the police/medical checks done 3 months b4 spouce appliction?.

We submitted our application at the end of Feb when I was in Thailand. My wife and kids did the medicals in early Jan and the police check in mid Jan.

You have to arrange these yourself.....

Hospitals.............. http://www.austembassy.or.th/bkok/DIMA07.html ....Fees vary from about 1500-2500 baht

Police Clearance......... Free.....postage fees apply if posting to the embassy or home address required. 12 month validity

You can get these done in advance.....takes about 2 weeks for the medicals to reach the embassy and about a week for the Police clearance.....The application wont proceed until they are received.

The date of first receipt of any documents determines the "no entry after date" of the application...In other words, if the Embassy receives the first documents on 12/7/08, The no entry after date will be 12/7/09.

My wifes police check was submitted in mid Jan and we received the letter from them about 23 Feb with the notification dated as at 19 Feb 08. Maybe there was a back log of check to be processed. Get it done as early as possible is probably a safe bet.

Does that mean you dont need a translation for the police check?

I was under the impression for the spouse visa application that any document not in English needs a translation.

Could anyone clear this up for me?

My wifes police check was actually written in english so there is no need for translation. You never see the medical report so there is nothing there you can do. All other docs such as tabien bahn, birth certificate etc needs to be translated.
