Angelinos in the Shangri La hotel is still one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Sliced tomato and ??? cheese...along with a monk fish. The wine: a Chardonnay from downunder.

...hope you didn't leave hungry after such an sumptuous meal...seems that, in certain venues, the more there is on the bill, the less was on the plate these days

The name of the restaurant is Angelini, still not sure if it is named for the CEO? Typically the cheese in that dish is fresh mozzarella, sometimes made from buffalo milk. Definitely one of the top Italian restaurants in Bangkok.

Yes, it's named after the CEO, and has recently undergone a huge renovation. It has been recommended to me by the recently departed (from BKK) GM, who was a friend and didn't have any particular interest in doing so, as he's left the group. I have to say it could only improve, as previously I found the food quite ordinaire, but I'm glad to hear others' views support that given by the GM.

The Next2 in the Shangri-La is going to close at the end of the month for major renovations. During that period the buffet will be moved upstairs to a part of the lobby.
