Last visit to thailand i caught tonsilitis, went to the hostpital because at the time didnt know what it was. Diagnosed...tonsilitis. I was given 4 different kinds of tablets to take. All the tablets were on the "large side", The antibiotics... They were massive. Almost the size of a trebor extra stong mint!!!!

I asked the GF why they were so big. She replied most of the tablets were big in thailand. When i returned to the uk and visited my doctor to get more because it had not cleared up, the tablets i recieved were the size of a normal paracetamol. ?!?!? Why are they bigger in thailand?? or is it just me?? Any one else notice this?

Overkill... If you give your patients the most potent antibiotics you can find, you know they will kill most bacteria, and the patient will be ok. This way, you do not have to run any tests... Unfortunately, indiscriminate prescription of broad-spectrum antibiotics in countries such as Thailand gives rise to two major problems:

1. "Superbugs" - bacteria that are resistant to all known forms of antibiotics.

2. Reluctance on part of the pharmaceutical companies to develop new types of antibiotics. It is quite costly and a lot less profitable to develop new antibiotics as opposed to other medication...

I am sure doctor Pat Pong can elaborate on this... :o

I have not found pills to be larger. As a matter of fact most dosage here in Thailand is below what is prescribed in western countries due to body size average being smaller so normal pill will be in a lower strength. But perhaps the specific pills you were taking had more filler than normal (especially if low priced local generic versions). But those that I have taken are about the same size I was taking in US.
