Am not sure of your question but the requirement/exchange rate will be determined by the Embassy when they issue the OA visa. You are talking about the one year permitted to stay on entry that you apply for in your home country? If you both want such a visa you both must qualify but being married one can obtain and other follow as spouse without the requirement. You would have to ask at Embassy how they handle that - here in Thailand the spouse just gets a non immigrant visa and then extends to match the retirement extension of stay holder.

Income should be determined before tax. You do not need a Thai bank account for an OA visa so expect you may not be talking about the visa issued in home country called OA (which requires police clearance/medical and account in home country). So if you are talking about extensions of stay inside Thailand the exchange rate will be up to Immigration on the day you apply. You have to obtain a letter of amount from your Embassy in that case.

All a bit confusing but you do have enough monthly income to get the yearly stay for retirement.

Do you intend getting the Visa in Europe or getting the extension in Thailand?

Sorry all :o ,iff I was not clear with my question.Indeed we apply for the visa in Europe ,to be precice in Belgium.

I just wanted to have confirmation as there ar so many visions and regulations ! So We qualify for the o.a.visa in our home country. No problem concerning the medical and police clearance,we have this .

Additional question : after one year we wil , apply for the retiremend visa in Thailand,do we also qualify by the income ??? And iff later I would have less income can I qualify as spouse on the income of my wife ?

Thank you all !Josef

In Thailand, you will apply for a retirement extension. It is at this time when

1. only one of you needs to show evidence of the equivalent of 65k Baht monthly income or 800k in a Thai bank or a combination of both and the other can get an extension of stay as a dependant of the spouse

2. if income is used for the retirement extension, this income has to be certified by your embassy in Thailand

If you obtain a multi entry OA visa you can stay almost two year before you need to extend at Immigration. Each entry of a multi entry gets a new one year permitted to stay stamp during the one year validity of the visa. So issued July 5, 2008 - enter July 10, 2008 and stamped to July 9. 2009. Exit July 6, 2009 and return same day = new stamp until July 5, 2010. During the period the multi entry visa has expired you will have to obtain re-entry permits for any travel out of Thailand to keep that July 5, 2010 date alive.

In later years you can extend both meeting the financial requirements (each year a new process) at Immigration or, under current rules, second person could use spouse option for matching stay without financial conditions.
