Hi,

I'm coming up to my 3rd monthly visa run (after 2 years on a non-B but it expired 2 months ago). After my next visa run it's time to go to Laos (first time). I've just read about multi-entry tourist visas (double and triple) for the first time.

In Laos can I get a triple entry tourist visa which I extent each time for another month and thus:

After 60 days extend for 30 more.

Then do a basic visa run and repeat it 2 more times for a triple entry -

and thus giving me 9 months or so of visas between 3 extensions and 2 visa runs?

It's the first time I've heard of doing it that way.

Thanks for any info y'all.

Tourist visa

A tourist visa is valid for 60 days and can be extended with a maximum of 30 days in an immigration office in Thailand. A tourist visa can be issued at a Thai embassy or consulate.

Multiple entry visa

In some Thai embassies and consulates, you will be able to apply for a visa with "multiple entry" (double or triple) which makes it possible to just pass the border after 60 days in Thailand two (double entry) or three (triple entry) times. (or 60+30 days if you have extended your visa at an immigration office) For further information please contact a Thai embassy or consulate.

The Thai consulate in Vientiane has routinely been issuing double-entry tourist visas in recent months as the only consulate in region doing so. No reports from members about receiving triple-entry tourist visas.

Cheers. Will probably find out myself in a month or so - have also just sent them an e-mail requesting if it's possible.

I'm a holder of triple entry tourist visa. I got it at last January in Laos.

This query kind of fits in here...if you do go to Laos for a visa run, how long does it take to get the visa and is there a preferred day to go there? I am a UK national in case that makes any difference.

And that visa has an issue date of ?? and an expiration date of ??

Date of issue 7 Jan 2008 , expiration (enter before) 6 Apr. 2008.

Indeed I don't know if it's good for the third entry.

I made the second entry at 6 Apr. but I don't get the usually "used" stamp on my visa.

The officer just wrote the number 2 in a circle.

Your visa has well and truly expired. I'm surprised you were even allowed to use in on April 6 as it does indicate "enter before". It was probably through a lapse in concentration of the immigration officer that you weren't stamped "used".

A triple entry visa valid for 3 months is not much use unless you intend to stay for shorter periods upon each entry.

How can a triple entry visa be good only for 3 months?

If I 'd intend to stay for short periods in 3 months, I no need of visas. Because I allowed to make 3 entries for 30 days each.

I don't think about the lapse of concentration at the immigration. In that case we'd have two episode like that , because I got the 30 days of extension at the local immigration as well.

Of course a triple entry visa can be valid for 3 months as is clearly obvious with yours - you have 3 months.

It's also pretty obvious that if your visa expires on April 6, that's it, it has expired.

You can reason about this anyway you like, but you won't get another entry if your visa has expired.

The extension is always available when your 60 day stamp expires and it's not related to the validity period of the visa.

The tourist visas would still be useful if somebody didn't want to use up their 90 day allotment of visa-exempt entry and also that person was planning some travel out of the country. Not everybody who lives here, stays in Thailand continuously. I don't.

Then I have took a cheat. Ok that's means I no longer buy a 3 entry for the next time, but only 2.

I just looked back at your first post on this thread. You said you got a triple entry tourist visa in Laos. Which consulate gave you that? I wasn't aware that they were issuing 3x entry tourist visas in Laos.

Back in your home country it may be possible to get 3x entry TV's valid for 6 months. In future it may help to inquire about the validity period when you apply.

I will do it as soon as I go back to my home country, or I will get a 2 entry visa in Laos.

However, thank you for your suggestions.

Yes I know, but what I wanted to say, is that the local immigration didn't aware of the mistake as well. And then they given me the 30 of extension without any problem.
