Hello. I normally just book based on review's at Sawasdee, but figured I'd try asking for recommendations to see if it helps me find a hidden gem.

I'm looking for a hotel in Bangkok that is within 5 min walk of the Skytrain or subway. Pool is a must. Look for quiet clean room. No cockroaches or bedbugs. Wireless Internet is a plus. It would be nice if it was a short walk to food/shopping, but if its close to a skytrain I figure it won't be too hard to ride it to get to what I want.

I don't care about breakfast. I don't care about bringing "guests" back to the room. I don't need to be close to the night life. During the day I plan to be out and about, and at night I just want to watch some TV/DVD and get a good nights sleep.

Ideally it would be around 1000-1500 baht a night. I'm cheap.

Any suggestions?

And just to add, I'm not looking to stay in any particular neighborhood, as long as its close to the Skytrain I can get wherever I need to go.

Bambi posted a good list pinned at the top: Hotels under 1000 B, all over Thailand but some Bkk ones included.

And then there are a couple of threads in the Bangkok Forum as well, this is one a search brought up:

A Simple Challenge. Clean hotel with pool, easy access, <1200 Bht

Thanks SBK, I actually had saw that thread, but it seemed just like a list with no details or personal experience. I'll check out the Bangkok forum as well.

One that I would rate as okay is the Sena Place, Saphan Kwai. There are a sky train station, restaurants and shops within walkable distance. There are even some bars quite close in the Intamura area. The hotel isn't plush but I have found it to be generally clean. Have used it a few times when flying out of Don Muang and it is close to Jatujak market.

As a reg into Bangers, I always stay at .......

http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/thailand/bangkok/9159/

Go read.

It is close to both Skytrain and Metro, main reason I stay there, so easy to get places.

Food, free brekky and hawker mart in place rite outside.

WiFi, not sure, always used cyber shop next door.

If you are a really cheap guy like me, get there by public bus, 552........ 32 baht.... alight at Soi 16, cross road by pedestrian bridge, it is 1st place on right in Soi 25.

People are good, no creepies that I have seen whilst staying in last 4 years.

Single is usually a double, great.

Thanks for the tip on the Sena. I'll check it out.

Zpete, I took at look at that Hostel. I might keep that in mind for future trips, but my lady insists we must have a pool to cool off after a day walking around Bangkok. That's her only requirement and she won't budge. I'd also checked out the Take A Nap, looks really neat except for the lack of pool. It was where I was originally planning to stay.

book through Asia rooms and make sure you get a junior suite.

Nice enough hotel, good people and very close to BTS @ Chong Nonsri. Loads of eating around as well.

used to be called 'Trinity Silom Hotel'

i've stayed there a few times.. located just behind Silom Rd, nice place, easy BTS, a bit of a trek to the shared rooftop pool though & at around 2000 baht+ a night, maybe a little more than your budget..

This is a new one right next to Skytrain at On Nut. Has the pool you want, its a boutique type hotel, quirky design, some VERY good reviews on the net. Booked direct it would come in closer to 2000B but think you might get it a bit cheaper if shopping around.

Here.

What is blowing you guys out on reasonable room rates is the "pool". Frankly can't understand why you would need one. Plenty of resorts in Cha Am Hua Hin Chon Buri & Rayong provinces can provide a beach/pool experience at much lower rates than Big Mango.

Usually send my friends to the Manhattan in Suk Soi 15. Rate is 1354 right now on Asiarooms.com

No idea if they have a pool or not.

I travel S.E.A. extensively, all for personal reasons, fum etc.

I have become fed up with many booking sites.

Sawasdee I have used, was good.

I now inhabit hostels, which some are as good as, even better than many hotels.

My favoured booking agency is Hostel Bookers, no booking fees.

Check out here, my regular Bangers accommodation place.

Good luck.

They have do have a pool. The rate is not 1354 Baht on Asiarooms. They advertise it as 1,354 Baht. But you are charged 41USD. They do not process payments in Thai Baht. Seen it for 1,307 Baht on another site.
