Briton killed in Thailand hit-and-run

A British woman has been killed in a hit-and-run collision in Thailand, the Foreign Office confirmed.

Jennifer Burden, 26, died after being struck by a car while on holiday in Pattaya.

Police are still trying to trace the driver of the vehicle and an investigation is under way.

Very sad.

Road accidents can happen anywhere but statistics and other evidence such as standards for driver training and enforcement of traffic laws clearly show that the roads of Thailand are much more dangerous places than the roads of the UK.

I put a post on here earlier when i heard about it from bbc news site.Nothing seems to have been mentioned about this localy in Pattaya/Thailand.With all the shiiiiiiit on tv and the english speaking papers do you think this has been hushed up for a reason.

.................. do you think this has been hushed up for a reason.

A traffic accident?

Maybe driver had something to drink?

Fled the scene?

Can happen anywhere in the world.

I do not see why it should be in the news here, so I do not see the reason to be hushed up.

A lot conspiracy theories surface in the Forums when a tourist/expat is involved in an accident/incident.

PS. the last one was not directed to the OP here. Just a general observation

As a pedestrian, traffic in Thailand can take some getting used to. I've seen people get hit that don't understand the odd traffic conditions, particularly along Sukhumvit where the conditions/directions change from morning to evening. In fact I nearly walked into a car on Asoke this week, mainly due to a hangover.

I have seen 3 farangs in the course of a few years get mowed down on sukhumvit between nana and asoke in the wee hours. Most KIA and most were looking the wrong way. Then again, I don't how this relates to hit and run. Maybe should change it to "Mao and mowed down"

It can & does, you're right. But it happens here more than anywhere else in the World that i have experienced, x 10.

Once I was walking on the pavement(sidewalk) near BTS Aree when one farang driver turned into the service station by cutting in front of me, and missing me by inches. I waited till the guy parked the car, and told him that he shouldn't drive like that. And his response was: "I am very unhappy that you came and confronted me about this. You should've just gone on your way."

I bet the guy won't do that in his home country. But when in Thailand, even the farang do what the Thais do.

Agree, it happens a lot here.

I know quite a few drive when drunk, and many with limited insurence.

So when they are involved in an accident, they tend to leave as soon as possible.

It is not possible to talk my Thai friends into stop driving when drunk.

If the news papers should print all the hit and run stories, they would need an extra section for it.
