THAI reaffirms 20 Airbus aircraft procurement

BANGKOK: -- Thai Airways International Thursday reaffirmed its procurement of 20 Airbus A321-200 aircraft for domestic and regional routes.

Chairman Chaisawasd Kittipornpaiboon said the board acknowledged progress made on the general terms of agreement and the acquisition agreement, according to detailed discussions between the airline and Airbus.

The A321200 project documentation also received the board's approval and will be proposed to the Transport Ministry for submission to the Cabinet.

The Airbus A321-200 - a shorttomedium range, narrowbodied aircraft with a capacity of 179 seats - will replace some retired aircraft and accommodate more passengers.

The fuelefficient and environmentally friendly aircraft is expected to enter THAI's fleet from 2012 to 2017.

From 2012 to 2017 is from 4 to 9 years into the worldwide recession.

Somehow I do not think that they'll be taking delivery.

Sticking their heads in the sand and muttering a mantra of "Business will be as usual" will only get them their salaries for their last few months of employment.

Would you rather they used planes at the end of their commercial lives and that higher fuel consumption? It is a hedging decision. TG can always do what AC just did and cancel the order or find an alternative buyer. (AC had previously confirmed its delivery of AB 340s and has now said no.)

They won't be needing any new planes after US NSTB rescinds ANY Thailand based ailine from landing in the US , Keep the old 747 just repair the sparking fuel tanks, please.

And why should the NTSB do that? besides that the 747's are not a subistitute of a short haul airplane lige A320 it uses way to much fuel to takeoff and landings.

You must be confused. But even if the NTSB did revoke their landing rights in the US how would that affect THAI? They now only have one flight a day to the US (LAX), and it seems to do nothing but cause THAI to lose money as the fuel and operating costs are more than the revenues.
