Visa process @ us embassy, bangkok

Featured Replies

I know it's not the right thread but I hope someone can assist.

I petitioned for my fiancee using the I-129F process.  Today, I received a message that my petition was approved and forwarded to the U.S. embassy in Bangkok.

I went to the embassy web site to see if I could get information about their processing.  Information such as length of time I should expect before they call my fiancee in for an interview.  But no information at all.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Full information is provided on the Embassy web site; as in the quote below.  Perhaps you did not find the right page.

K-1 FIANCE(E) VISA PROCESSING IN BANGKOK

What do I do first? First you file an I-129F Petition for Alien Fiance(e) with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). All I-129F petitions must be filed in the U.S. with the appropriate INS office having jurisdiction over the petitioner’s state of residence. Thai’s change their names often; be sure to include on the petition all names your fiance(e) has ever used or visa processing could be delayed. For general information, see the INS website at http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/index.htm.

What happens after the INS office in the U.S. processes the petition? After an INS office in the U.S. processes and approves an I-129F petition, it will be forwarded directly to the Immigrant Visa Unit (IV Unit) of the Bangkok Consular Section. Once the IV Unit receives the petition, it will immediately send or give out a packet of materials called Packet 3 for Fiance(e) Visa, which must be completed by the visa applicant and returned to the IV Unit. Once the visa applicant returns Packet 3 for Fiance(e) Visa to the IV Unit, the IV Unit will schedule the visa interview (2-3 weeks later), provide instructions for the required medical exam, and request an FBI name check from the U.S. (which can take anywhere from 7-14 days).

How long will the whole process take? The length of time will depend on how quickly INS processes the petition and then how quickly the visa applicant returns Packet 3 to the IV Unit. Once the visa applicant returns Packet 3 to the IV Unit, the visa interview is normally scheduled 2-3 weeks later.

How long will it take to get a visa after the interview? The same day, as long as the visa applicant is found eligible for the visa.

Which affidavit of support do I use? Persons sponsoring a fiance(e) must use the I-134 Affidavit of Support.

For more general information on fiance(e) visas, please see the Department of State website at www.travel.state.gov and click on Visa Services.

I would add that if she does not hear anything within two week that you should contact the Embassy to make sure it has not been lost in the mail.  Also since August many more people have to be interviewed for visas so the wait time could be longer.  Tourists are advised to allow six weeks now.
