Hi all,

I've a friend over who's nearly reached the end of his 30 day tourist visa. He's looking to stay in Thailand for about 20+ more days, and is thinking of going over to Laos to get another tourist visa.

What puzzles me is the following:

1. As Singaporeans, we didn't need a visa to enter Thailand; would we require one to enter Laos?

2. Doesn't one get a tourist visa at immigration when one enters the country? i.e. the first 30 day tourist visa from immigration at the airport when you enter Thailand? So at Laos, could you just walk across the line into Laos, turn around, get passport stamped, and re-enter Thailand with another 30 day tourist visa? Why is it necessary to go to the Thai embassy?

Thanks loads guys :o

1. That is up to Laos but believe you are probably exempt for short stay.

2. You do not have to obtain a tourist visa from Embassy for a 20 day stay - just enter Laos and return to Thailand for another 30 day visa exempt entry.

Just remember that Singapore is not exempt from the 90 days on visa exempt entry in a six month period rule so if there have been other recent use of 30 day entry you may need to keep count of the days.

I believe there is visa free travel between all the ASEAN countries, which should include Laos.

Check with the Lao Embassy.
