TWO KRATOEYS PULL UNDER-THE-BED SCAM ON NAIVE IRANIANS

Two kratoeys or ladyboys lured two Iranian men into having sex in room in Moo Baan Rungland, Pattaya, on July 19, 2008. While one of the kratoeys was having sex, the other hid under the bed and stole money from the victims. A Good Samaritan later managed to catch the kratoey who was under the bed, but the suspect claimed he was completely innocent.

On July 19, 2008, at 2.30 am, Pol.Maj. Witthaya Yuenyong, Pattaya, was notified that two foreigners had been robbed by kratoeys and a suspect had been detained. The incident happened behind Moo Baan Rungland, near "Bu-gna Jim Jum" Restaurant. A police team was sent to investigate.

At the scene of the incident, police met the two Iranian victims, Messrs. Morteza Pirouz (37) and Ahmad Hadli (28), along with Mr. Pornchai Promsijan (32), a kratoey from Udonthani, who had been detained by a Good Samaritan helpmate of the Iranians. Mr. Pornchai claimed that he hadn't stolen anyone's property, but when police searched his pockets, they found Bt6,200, US$20 and a mobile phone, which they kept as evidence.

Mr. Pirouz told police that he and his friend had gone for a spot of entertainment in South Pattaya and were approached by a kratoey, disguised as a woman, and his friend. The kratoey had offered them a body massage and sex, to which they agreed. The kratoey then took them to a room that he had rented in Soi Moo Baan Rungland, South Pattaya. When they reached the room, the two Iranians took off their clothes and put them on the floor. The kratoey duly gave them a massage and had sex with both Iranians. They then paid the kratoey for his services, after which the kratoey left the room.

Soon after the kratoey had gone, one of the Iranians discovered that around US$180 of his money, which had been in his trouser pocket, was missing, with only paper replacing it. Mr. Pirouz and his friend immediately put on their clothes and ran after the suspect, but they were unlucky because the kratoey who had serviced them had ridden away on a motorbike.

Meanwhile, the other kratoey, Mr. Pornchai, who apparently had been hiding under the bed, came out of the room shortly after the Iranians they had gone out. Conveniently, a Good Samaritan who had seen the Iranians give chase to the other kratoey realised what was going on and detained Mr. Pornchai. Mr. Pornchai denied knowing the other kratoey who had escaped and he had nothing to do with the robbery. He was subsequently searched and a large quantity of money was found on his person. This, he maintained, was money he had intended to send to his parents, upcountry.

However, the two victims identified Mr. Pornchai as one of the two kratoeys who had enticed them to the room. It later came out that their ploy was a regular trick of kratoeys, who would lure foreign victims to a room and one would secrete himself under the bed, while the other had sex. During the sexual activities, the victim would generally be unaware that there was a thief hidden under the bed, who would then steal property from their clothes while they were having sex and substitute some paper in the wallet or trousers so it still looked full and subsequently make their escape before the victims cottoned on.

Despite Mr. Pornchai's ardent denial of any involvement in the scam, he was charged with theft. Police then handed over Mr. Pornchai for police investigation and will acquire an arrest warrant for the kratoey who had escaped.

I love these police POINT the FINGER photos..... :o

Could be wrong, but the fingered katoey here does look a bit like some Iranian women I've seen....

Or...maybe it was a case of a bit too much to drink... or.... possible the other more obvious explanation...

Iran must be more socially liberal than I thought that these two guys pose for a picture to illustrate a story about them both having a sex with a katoey.

My guess is that this would not be considered gay sex in their culture. I don't think they would be posing or even reporting if caught having gay sex with a man. I doubt they consider this a ladyboy a man or that there is anything homosexual about their behavior. They have a point.

Anyway, my understanding of gay sex in their culture is that the giver isn't gay, but the receiver is.

True, some cultures often see it that way, such as Mexico, but keep in mind that those caught having homosexual sex in Iran, whatever the role, are subject to the death penalty. I don't think their law would see this as gay sex, but two men, they would. Iranians, please pipe in here. It is kind of scary that a country such as Iran, capable of such barbaric laws, is now so powerful regionally and even internationally.

For the 2 Iranians the problems will start when they will be back home...

I am guessing they might be OK as sex with prostitutes is common in Iran and this prostitute will be seen as a female. However, I have read that in Iran "temporary marriages" are arranged for as short as hour to make sex with prostitutes KOSHER, as it were (this includes religiously sanctioned "marriages" with girls as young as 7, how charming). As these men clearly did not marry this Thai "lady" perhaps you are correct. Where are the Iranian posters when we need them?

For their sakes...I sure hope the ayatollahs are not readers of Thai Visa or the Pattaya Gazette....

Otherwise.... I think it's stoning time.... What's the going rate (penalty) for sodomy in Iran????

Death for homosexuality in Iran, though they have specific rules about witnesses.

Surprising to learn Iran is rather liberal about trannies, second to Thailand in sex change operations! I still think these men will probably be OK because the sex was with third sex women, not men. It wouldn't surprise me if they have their passports taken though. Again, just guessing, but check this out:

I watched the original programme on the BBC. It was hugely depressing. The sex change thing is simply a way for gay men to avoid stigma and possible execution. Most of those on the programme didn't want the op but felt they had no choice.

Yes, all in the name of religious dogma. No wonder the Iranians like to vacation here and let loose, though frankly I haven't noticed any on the gay scene. Alot of the Middle Easterners also seem to be some pretty ripe (naive) marks/victims. Maybe coming from a place where thieves have their hands cut off has a silver lining?

I suppose if you want to get technical, if the Thai had cut it off, it was not at all gay, to my view anyway. If she still had it, well, I guess you had to be there ...

In case you don't know, most mainstream gays do not go sexually for this kind of stuff at all, though there are quite a few gay fans of ladyboys who are still intact.

Wait a minute didnt Ahmadinejad say there were no gays in Iran? So they couldnt possibly done what was reported. (must be a mistake) :o

The fact that they don't exist didn't stop the Iranian government from strangling two teenagers to death by hanging them from cranes.

Having sex with a ladyboy is gay. I don't think who's pitching or whose catching is relevant. Also, two men having sex with one ladyboy, or one lady, is gay. I still can't believe this happened in Pattaya.

If that's what you think. Just be aware that not everyone agrees with you. These kinds of labels/definitions are very fluid especially when you consider how radically different various cultures see them. I once visited an Indian area in Singapore and happened upon a bunch of blatantly heterosexual Indian men pursuing transexual prostitutes. There is no doubt in my mind these buyers did not consider this at all gay. Also in many cultures it is not at all weird, unusual, or "gay" for male friends to do all kinds of things together, including sharing some evening entertainment (volume discount?).

On the contrary - Pattaya is one of the few places in the world where no-one would bat an eyelid :o

This is normal for Pattaya.

People with huge amounts of money derived from oil income, will travel anywhere for their

sexual trangressions/preferences that will likely recieve a death sentence in their home country.

Not pointing the finger at any nationality but they it seems so many tourists are so guillible in

taking people back to their rooms in complete faith.

They deserve to be robbed.

the picture proves that all three Iranians are owners of one (or more) oil wells and based on the expression of their faces one can conclude that they have nothing else in mind than spending their surplus oil money on katoeys in Pattaya :o

People with 'huge amounts of money derived from oil income' are hardly likely to be living two to a rented room in South Pattaya. No-one 'deserves' to be the victim of crime. Sicky sicky...

What's all this talk of 'krathoeys' ? I thought that was some sort of upcountry stimulant that they smoke here in Thailand?

Hang on - that's krathom. Mind you, I was probably not too far wrong in my first assumption :o
