Apple Imac Question

Featured Replies

Just got an iMac and wonder if someone can advise on a problem I'm experiencing?

Moving files from windows to the mac I'm using a 160Gb external hard drive currently formatted as NTFS. (if this is applicable)

The operation of Windows to Mac creates no problems. However, when I attempt to reverse the action and move files from the Mac back to Windows the system advices "The operation cannot be performed as the external disk cannot be modified". Conversely, no problems if I use a simple memory stick.

I would explain that in all instances I'm moving (trying to!) TIFF photo files back to my Windows laptop having made amendments on the Mac.

The modification of the files however does not appear to be the problem as I have also tried to drop a file onto the Mac and, without any adjustments, failed to move it back to the hard drive!

Any help would be most appreciated

This is because your windows external hard dirve, is formatted with NFTS. OSX cannot write to NFTS partitions. It can display them allright, but not write to it. Two solutions, either reformat the external HD to FAT32 or (better) download NFTS-3G this is a small program that you will have to install on the Mac, this will let you write to NFTS partitions.
