Hey there, I'm a UK passport holder, I'm looking to fly into Cambodia then onto Vietnam within the next 2 weeks. Just wanted to ask if I will be granted a visa on entry ok for these places?

I've checked various websites and they say that will be ok, but just wanted to make sure here incase anybody has experienced difficulties.

Thanks

Josh

Hi Josh,

Don't know what websites you visited but the information is wrong.

In Cambodia, you can indeed receive your visa upon arrival, at least at the Int'l airports and certain border crossings. Bring USD 25.00 (I think) and a couple of passport visas. Alternatively, you can apply for an E-visa beforehand, pretty hassle-free.

Vietnam has NO visas upon arrival. Whilst certain nationalities are visa-exempt, this does not apply to Brits. You need to either apply for a visa beforehand at the nearest Embassy, or get a "pre-arranged visa" where your visa will be waiting for you at the airport. However, you need to convince the airline to let you on board.

You need to get a visa for Vietnam in advance.

Depended on your plans in Cambodia, the quickest and easiest place to get a visa is at the consular in Sinanoukville.

Visa on arrival for Cambodia is 20 USD, easy to obtain at the airport, just fill in the form (which you will get on the plane).

Don't bother with the "pre arranged" vietnamese visa though, because these are only valid at international airports, not at land borders, do as jbaldwin suggested, get your Vietnamese Visa in Cambodia, they have next day service for 1500 baht, much cheaper the the pre-arranged variety anyway.

Visa issued on entry, 30 days, $US25.00

No hasssle whatsoever.

What nationality are you. Officially, it is not possible. I have lived and worked in Vietnam for 13 years and, as I work in the hotel business, I consider myself pretty savy when it come to visa issues.

Here is the official version (from Vietnam Stay):

Most visitors to Vietnam need a visa to enter the country. Visas are exempted for the citizens of the countries, which have signed a bilateral or unilateral visa exemption agreement with Vietnam, tourist visa may be valid for 15 to 30 days.

Visa exemption:

Vietnamese people that hold foreign passports and foreigners who are their husbands, wives and children are exempt from visa requirements to enter Vietnam and are allowed to stay for not more than 90 days. In order to be granted visa exemption certificates at Vietnamese representative offices abroad, overseas Vietnamese need conditions:

Foreign-issued permanent residence certificate (PRC) with the validity of at least six months since the date of entrance.

Visa exemption paper (VEP) is granted by Vietnamese appropriate authorities.

Those who expect to stay more than 90 days must apply for visa according to current stipulations before their entrance.

Bilateral visa exemption agreement

Citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Laos holding valid ordinary passports are exempt from visa requirements and are allowed to stay for not more than 30 days.
