I just got my PC back from the local shop after they replaced the hard drive (it died and is under warranty) and reformatted the operating system. I'm using Firefox, and it tells me that I need to install missing updates like shockwave flash player. I click on the "Install missing update" buton, it checks and says "update not available - manual install?" so I do. I get redirected to the Adobe website and click the button, and hey presto - Unable to connect!

I've tried this for 3 days now in case... but still the same. I can't view this website properly, nor Youtube etc with firefox. I've tried going to 3rd party websites but they all link back to the Adobe site, which won't work.

My graphics card crashed the same time as my HD, and the shop set the PC up to use the onboard VGA for the time being. As usual, I'll have to wait for the graphics card to be ordered before they'll replace it under warranty, does this have anything to do with it?

Strangley, I can use IE instead of Firefox and there's no problem, so the Flash player works with IE but not Firefox. Thus Flash must be on my system, right? But why can't I install it on Firefox? (I prefer Firefox to IE anyday.)

Any ideas?

Cheers.

Try a manual reinstall install of the plugin which is the software element that connects the browser to the program. You need one for IE, and one for Firefox. LINK

Well at the risk of being thought impolite, do you Cap'n have any Ah ha Jim lad macromedia products? There was a time when the updater looked for registry data and if it was invalid terminated. Not personally, raelly, I did know of an installation with a dodgy Dreamweaver install which just wouldn't update Flash properly, until they removed it.
