Wifi Connection Problem

Featured Replies

I wonder if anyone can help with this problem. I'm staying in a Chiangmai guest house with wifi. It connects fine but after a few hours I click on a link in firefox and get the cannot connect message. The connection icon says connected normally. (signal strength excellent).

The same happens if I try IE. But when it just happened, I was connected to a http chatroom (java) and that continued to work fine. Plus other programs like MIRC were running normally. But clicking on a bookmark resulted in an instant cannot connect message.

Also if I went into the command line and pinged say google.com, I got a normal response. I've tried repairing the connection and disabling the firewall but the only thing that gets it back is to reboot.

I'm using an asus Eee running xp.

Any ideas?

TIA

Maybe a DNS issue.

Open wireless connection properties and check TCP/IP properties.

Are IP and DNS servers both chosen to select automatically?

If not, try it.

It coud be a Winsock issue as well.

I am not sure I can place this link. It links to Microsoft and will give you tech. support for Winsock issues

Thanks for the suggestions.

DNS servers are set to automatic.

Plus, when I ping, it gives the alphanumeric address. If I enter that into firefox it still can't connect.

I'll try resintalling tcpip as per the microsoft website.
