Bank Charge On Check From Us

Featured Replies

I received my rebate check from the US for $300. It took 3 weeks to clear and when it did clear the Bank of Ayudhya had deducted a 10% charge. I think that's an outrageous amount.

I have just received another check for over $1000. I don't feel like giving 10% of the amount to the bank. My question is is this normal? Is there any way around it?

Believe about $32 or so is a normal charge. Mail to your US bank for deposit.

The Bank of Ayudhya lists its fees for “cheques for collection” on this web page:

Service Fee

Cash Letter Basis:

• 200 Baht per item

• 3 Baht stamp duty per item

Collection Letter Basis

• 10 USD per item

• 3 Baht stamp duty per item

I believe another $20 or so will disappear from the amount you receive in Baht. The Thai bank fee is also $10 at Bangkok Bank but the total fee is $32 and they will tell you that upfront.

Thanks, you answered my question. $32 just happens to be about 10% of my $300 check. I obviously jumped to the conclusion that all checks would be charged a 10% fee, when it's now obvious that the fee is $32 for all checks. Cheers to thaivisa.com and both of you who answered my question
