Red Bull and Austria

Start, Austrian GP 2003© The Cahier Archive

Red Bull is an Austrian company, based at Fuschl am See near Salzburg, close to the German border. And while there is no intention to move the team out of England there is a strong case now for the return to the Formula 1 calendar of the Austrian Grand Prix, particularly now that Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz is pouring money into revamping the classic old Austrian circuit. Mateschitz is estimated to be investing around $220m to develop the area with an engineering and flying schools, a five-star hotel and upgrading the local airport. The word in Austria is that the race track will eventually be bought from the local automobile club by the local Steiermark authorities and also take over the leases of 18 farms in the area which have blocked some of the development. Mateschitz says that he wants to have activity at the track 300 days a year and obviously Formula 1 is an activity which the billionaire would like to see back at the track. He is planning to hold a big air show each year with some of the fleet of planes in his Flying Bulls flying circus, which is based at nearby Salzburg.

RED BULL TO RESCUE JAGUAR

Last Updated: Monday, 15, November, 2004, 10:12

Energy drinks company Red Bull is close to buying Jaguar, according to reports.

The deal is expected to be finalised before Monday evening, the deadline for entries for the 2005 F1 season.

The Financial Times quoted an ‘insider close to sale negotiations’ as saying the deal was almost complete.

The source said: "We've accepted the offer; exchanged contracts -- all we have to do now is hand over the keys.”

The sale is believed to be for a nominal fee but the team’s previous owners Ford had been seeking assurances that Red Bull had the resources to keep the team afloat for three years.

US corporate rules dictate that Ford would still be liable to team employees for that period of time after the sale.

The news means that there should be 10 teams on the F1 grid next season, and will ensure that no team has to run three cars.

lolz.

Yeah, the Yoovidhya's would probably be sick (well, at least annoyed) if Dietrich didn't pay his licensee fees.

But seriously, I'm surprised the beverage survives and even prospers in the west.... it does major damage to the kidneys (anyone want an easy medical PhD dissertation? .....do a study on Red Bull + X,000 Thai taxi drivers'/long haul truckers consumption habits of said drink + kidney failure). Might even be able to work up a lawsuit (in the west anyway) to make a quick buck as well.

:o

But the Thai bloke who bottles "gratien dang" (and m100 et al...) here in Thailand isn't too short of cash either.

Farang kids are mixing Red Bull with hard liquor so maybe their kidneys/liver are taking a harder knock.

There are plenty of copies of RB about to ...

so its a growth market

Actually, he's pulled one over on us. I pay $3 cdn for one (austrian or thai version) when I'm on this side of the pond. :o
