Hi Kabul

Thanks your answer about disabling NVIAva did the trick, scandisk and defrag works perfectly. one more question if I may, after restarting my pc it enables nviava again , do I need this and whats nviava about. I don't want to delete it but dont want to disable it everytime I want to run scandisk.

No problem vodka,

To disable (for XP), go to your Display Properties and click the Settings tab. Click the Advanced button and you should see a tab with the name of your video card. Click this, and with mine I get new popup with an option called Troubleshooting, here there is a checkbox to toggle displaying nvidia icon in taskbar. That work for my system anyway.

Or you can use the XP System Configuration Utility... type Msconfig.exe in Start --> Run. uncheck the nvidia util under the Startup tab
