Can anybody give advice on growing roses in Thailand.

PRUNING --- In England it was usual to prune in the Autumn, when growth was at a minimum. Here the plants grow all the time, and the best time for flowering, marginally, seems to be the cool season. So when to prune? This is my first year with the some bushes so please can somedody enlighten me.

SPRAYING --- Aphids don't seem to be a problem here, so is it necessary to spray at all?

After posting this the site lead me to a previous post on this subject which is very useful. Here it is:

Most roses are normally deciduous, but not so here in the tropics, Main things to remember,is to dead head as soon as each flower dies, a light watering each morning, feed regularly with rose food (but sparingly).

The roses available mainly in Los are Tea variety ,not the standard rose that grows a single trunk about a metre high.

Tea roses are more bushy but tend to get very "leggy"in these conditions so instead of just removing the dead flower, take about six inches of stem as well ,this will encourage multiple shoots, then once a year ,probably as the weather cools about Xmas chop about 50% of their growth off.

In pots you can just prune to a height that you feel suits their placement, say 30-45 cm high, you can even shape them, you can be pretty ruthless as they are tough plants.
