August 23, 200817 yr It now seems certain that Obama has chosen Senator Joe Biden as his running mate. Biden has a few problems with telling porkies when he ran for the Democratic nomination in 1988. The Republicans will make hay with this, but he seems like a fairly good choice to me. A lot of experience there.
August 23, 200817 yr It seems a good choice. Of the two people on the ticket, Biden is the only one I'd heard of, up until a few months ago.
August 23, 200817 yr I think that Obama would have won easily with Hillary as his running mate, but there is a very good chance that he will lose without her. I would have gone for the sure-shot!
August 23, 200817 yr Author General, to me Hill was the natural choice. I mean, the deal would come with a former president who knows how to handle the economy.
August 23, 200817 yr The problem with selecting Biden is that he is another U.S. Senator...so now you have two U.S. Senators on the same ticket. Neither has experience running a bureaucracy. Obama is running a populist campaign but he is on an elitist ticket. He could have selected Bill Richardson, the Governor of New Mexico, who has more practical foreign policy experience than Biden and also would help with the Hispanic vote. I'm very disappointed in the choice.
August 23, 200817 yr General, to me Hill was the natural choice. I mean, the deal would come with a former president who knows how to handle the economy. Not to mention all those sure VOTES!
August 26, 200817 yr Author General, to me Hill was the natural choice. I mean, the deal would come with a former president who knows how to handle the economy. Not to mention all those sure VOTES! Looks to me the votes are playing hard to get. The Dems have to make a decision, get out and vote for Obama or the Republican administration continues. Bill and Hillary Clinton dent hopes of Democratic Party unity THE lingering resentment from Hillary and Bill Clinton and their supporters over her loss to Barack Obama in the Democratic Party presidential nomination has flared again, marring the opening of the Democratic Party convention in Denver. Democratic party officials have been urging the Clintons to maintain party unity, hoping both Senator Clinton and former president Mr Clinton would deliver passionate endorsements for Senator Obama over the next two days in keynote addresses to party delegates. We don't wanna play house.
August 26, 200817 yr Obama started the negative campaigning by continually claiming that McCain and Bush are exactly the same person. Anyone who has done a little bit of research knows that they are two very different men and that McCain has done some amazingly good, noble and heroic things in his lifetime. Obama knows better and has been out and out lying about McCain's character. I admit that the Republican Party is now in the process of tearing Obama a new butt-hole with negative advertisements, but he really did ask for it, and that plagiarizer Biden won't be much defense, at all. August 26, 200817 yr Author As one who sits on the side lines and, in the interests of his personal sanity, tries to only read American election stuff once a week the vast amount of the mud being thrown seems to be coming from the Republican side. I assume that the spin doctors thought that because Kerry made very little comment when he was "swift boated" that Obama would do the same and are now squealing like schoolgirls because he's not playing by their rules. I would say now that if McCain has any skeletons in his military closet Obama will drag them clattering out for all to see. I suspect we will see a lot of this type of thing in the next two months from much more reputable sources. Edited August 26, 200817 yr by sceadugenga
August 26, 200817 yr As one who sits on the side lines and, in the interests of his personal sanity, tries to only read American election stuff once a week the vast amount of the mud being thrown seems to be coming from the Republican side. I agree, but also have the impression that Obama started it which is not good for him. I like him and would feel sorry for him otherwise.
August 26, 200817 yr I would say now that if McCain has any skeletons in his military closet Obama will drag them clattering out for all to see.I suspect we will see a lot of this type of thing in the next two months from much more reputable sources. To me, this is too negative to be believable, so one tends to write it all off. Swiftboat concentrated on one specific incident. The problem with that kind of tactic (Youtube) is that it can be done to anyone who has been on TV much - which most politicians have. Everyone makes mistakes in interviews which is why there are so many blooper tapes by professional actors. The interesting thing is that this kind of smear is almost always done by liberals who you would think would be above that type of manipulation. Edited August 26, 200817 yr by Ulysses G.
August 26, 200817 yr Author I'm sure that the present incumbent has totally destroyed any but the most pedantics interest in blooper tapes. No, no General liberals are always cool and rational in their arguments. The US Education System at Work
August 26, 200817 yr In some ways it was funny, 2 'educated people' ranting at each other! What a great example to those watching! One line that made me chuckle: "Be an adult!" The re-mix was classy... Edited August 26, 200817 yr by suegha

August 27, 200817 yr I keep meeting people who claim that Obama may lose the election because he is black. They have bought the big lie that McCain is another Bush and can not understand any other reason that people would not want to vote for Obama. They don't even realize that at one time the liberal media was firmly behind McCain and have already established that he is a genuine good guy. As far as I am concerned, we have TWO good candidates running, but one might be a little too old and the other a little too young (inexperienced). We have to decide which we prefer. August 28, 200817 yr Just like the UK, some folk will vote for the blue no matter what and some will vote for the red no matter how poorly the country has been run since they came to power. Coming November, die hard Republicans will vote as they always did, with their candidate old, but a sensible good man at heart. Democrats, well not all of those who " would have voted for them no matter what, " will forget the bitter contest for the leadership. Will they get enough fence sitters to go out and vote....................I don't think so.
August 28, 200817 yr Author At least the Democrats managed to come up with a good show of unity at their convention.
August 28, 200817 yr At least the Democrats managed to come up with a good show of unity at their convention. Don't believe anything you see at these conventions...either for the Democrats or Republicans. Both parties try to put on a good show of unity. Four years ago after Kerry was nominated as the Democratic candidate for President, he looked unbeatable...and then his campaign fell apart as he was exposed as an opportunistic fraud. The conventions are designed to convince the general public to vote for their candidate...and to accept everything they see and hear on face value. Woe be unto them that fall for this.
August 28, 200817 yr Author Garry Trudeau thinks the Republican convention could have a few problems.
August 30, 200817 yr Author US political commentators were stunned today at McCain's choice of Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin as his presidential running mate. Link DENVER: Alaska's female Governor, Sarah Palin, was early today named in reports as the running mate of Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Fox News and CNN said senior Republicans had confirmed that Senator McCain, 71, had picked the 44-year-old Ms Palin, a political reformer. Ms Palin is only the second woman nominated for US vice-president. In 1984, the Democrats nominated Geraldine Ferraro as the No 2 to their presidential nominee, Walter Mondale, who lost to incumbent Ronald Reagan. The mother of five and strong anti-abortionist is a first-term governor credited with reforms in her out-of-the-way state. Newly minted Democratic nominee Barack Obama is making an aggressive play for the traditional Republican stronghold and its three electoral votes, and polls show the race is close. At 44, Ms Palin is three years younger than Senator Obama and, like Senator McCain, she calls herself a maverick.
August 30, 200817 yr Everyone seems to think it was a mistake and I have certainly never heard of her. The Obama stategy of painting McCain as another Bush is working well with people who automatically vote against Republicans and those who don't do their homework and just take anything they hear as gospel truth and Obama's speeches are truly amazing. It is rather strange that they remain so close in the polls.
August 30, 200817 yr Author Polls usually say what the people want them to say General. Others are manipulated by right wing groups like FreeRepublic.com who can get several thousand votes into a newspaper poll within hours. A quick search of American political forums the morning show some Clinton supporters may switch allegiance while most Republicans are claiming her to be the new (deputy) Messiah, although some seem to think her name is spelled Palen.
August 30, 200817 yr I find it interesting that Obama who is portrayed by the democrats as being untried and relatively unknown chooses an old stager such as Biden and McCain who is an old stager chooses a relatively unknown and untried vice president in Palin. She will appeal to a lot of people as a woman, mother (of five) conservative (anti abortion) and strong gun supporter. Add into the mix her eldest son is in Iraq as a solider (volunteer) and she has a disabled child who is on home care It will make interesting reading CB
August 30, 200817 yr Author I hope that Americans think about the fact that she will only be a heart beat away from the presidency if it's won by a 72 year old man.

September 1, 200817 yr Author Palin's teenage daughter pregnant Link It really shouldn't be an issue and in most countries it wouldn't be, but the first thing these people say is "I'm a committed Christian and go to Church every Sunday and that makes me a better person than those that don't". The rules are very carefully laid down by these people and then they cry that their personal lives are nobody's business except their own. Their scummy media connections have no problem bringing their cameras down to Soi Cowboy and filming OUR personal lives, but this is what deviates like us deserve. Committed Christians having a sneaky bonk outside of marriage is a different thing entirely.
September 2, 200817 yr In America we don't blame people for the sins of their fathers OR their children. A lot of "committed Christians" have kids that totally rebel against it, but are still beloved members of their family. Just ask MY parents!
September 2, 200817 yr Author Unfortunately General most of the world does judge people by their families, including Americans. The Republicans were quick enough to drag up Obama's shanty town brother in the hope it would knock a few points off his popularity.
