British People Mis-behaving In Europe

Sadly, that kind of behaviour in the Eu has been going on for 40 years that I know of.

It's similar in parts of Sydney, Gold Coast. By Aussies, not Poms. :o

Let's hope they never make it to Thailand.

What has teenage binge drinking in places like Malia got to do with Brits in Thailand?

:o

It is Britons behaving badly abroad. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_travel/20080812...N4yM9EwQRms0NUE

Do you think their unruly behavior is any different in Thaland or anywhere else? Just go to Pattaya and observe the football hooligans there.

Instead of going into denial, it would behoove Britons to anknowledge thier bad behavior and formulate a plan to act more civilized, especially in Thailand.

Never seen a british football hooligan in Pattaya - seen plenty swede, finnish, german and russian muppets though!! :o

I don't think their budget can stretch to the airfare these days, thank <deleted>.

"Especially in Thailand, but ESPECIALLY in Pattaya."

These people are usually at little bit younger versions of the people who ends up here, but yes, that is the typical behaviour the brits are so well known for, doesnt matter if its in the US, Europe of here.

But as i said before, they usually come here when they get a little older, still loud, drunk and not seldom with a really bad attitude too. Just remember, not all brits are like that, but too many not to notice the pattern.

Someone put a comment on another post yesterday. Something about Pattaya looking like an UK prison break.

Perhaps now with the higher airfares, high death rate for UK tourists and the rising costs of lady drinks the situation here in Bangkok is beginning to stabilize.

The only thing I noticed is that so many (apparent) hooligan types are too busy having a good time to get punchy.

Maybe it's lack of poontang that makes them angry in the first place?

Maybe the free availablity of poontang in Pattaya has a calming effect?

Perhaps Pattaya is hooligan rehab?

Most of the young Brits they are talking about in the article are on a "Stag Do" or "Pissup" and not hooligans. Pretty much despised all over Central & Eastern Europe now (where they were lured by cheap alcohol). They should be careful if they ever go to Pattaya. Russians seem to be the one group which doesn't put up with their crap and if they walk into the wrong place behaving like they do they'll wish they hadn't.

Young ones out to have some fun.

It happens. Not just Brits eithers as other posters have pointed out.

In Europe they go out, get legless, shag each other on the streets and generally have fun.

If these town and resorts do not want the income generated it is easy enough to stop these youngsters.

One of my best friends here is British.

He keeps telling me how ashamed he is over the behavor of his countrymen here.

And I keep telling him they do not represent his country.

They just represent a certain group in his country.

Ironic.

A couple of trips ago I was sitting in O'Brian's near Nana BTS early one morning hoping to enjoy a quiet breakfast with my Bangkok Post. A couple of tables away though were a loud group of Brits - families with young children. They weren't rude or obviously drunk (at least not the kids) but they were making a racket and even singing - it's a small place and a little noise goes a long way. They were having difficulty communicating their wants to the Thai staff who were rather non-plussed by their raucous guests.

The funny thing was that the Brits, who obviously spent their previous holidays in Spanish climes, eventually gave up the tactic of "speak loud and slow when addressing foreigners" and resorted to Spanish! And not real Spanish but Spanglish which really puzzled the Thais. Finally they negotiated the bill, broke into a chorus of "Una Paloma Blanca" (sp?) and left.

I exchanged a couple of sympathetic looks with the staff and got on with breakfast. :o

At the time I took it as a sign that the Ibiza-set were straying further afield, but perhaps fuel prices and the credit crunch will hold them back a little longer.

Maybe they thought they were in Ibiza!

Reality hadn't quite set in that they were on holiday in Thailand.

Struck up conversation with some very pleasant Spanish tourists a couple of weeks ago, who told me they were on holiday to get away from the British tourists.

They then profusely apologised realising I was British, and I managed to escape the situation by telling them I was my mothers nationality (not British) but was educated in UK.

Cultural crisis averted.

I have always wondered about this. I've got some friends from Britain and they are nice chaps, but they can get paid and drink themselves into absolute oblivion, missing work and not really sober up until the money's gone. I go out with them for a few hours and then I go home and they head out. Some have ended up in hospital, at the police station and I won't even get into car/motorcycle accidents.

It is not so much the fact that they get drunk a lot, in fact i dont usually have a problem with that, but its actually the attitude, the show-no-respect-here-i-come-i-am-loud-i-know-best-i-am-the-man-attitude that in combination with heavy drinking is what bothers me.

On several occations i have seen brits causing a lot of drama in broad daylight too, not necessarly in combination with alcohol. But as i said before, of course not all of them are like this.

Clearly you have an issue with Brits based on several other posts you have made, it would be interesting to know what nationality you are?

I'm quite happy to say that I'm a Brit, but i find what you are saying a trifle blinkered. Whilst, there are a number of Brits who like to get pissed and act obnoxiously, this is hardly the domain of British people, and certainly not representaive of the whole nationality. Those idiots that come here and act like that are no different in what you find in many other countries, in fact some of the most obnoxious people I've come across in Bangkok in fact, have been of Asian origin.

I have lived here in Bangkok for three years, but have previously worked in asia for another four, and I really can't say that I've encountered many people that you are saying exist. I assume it depends on where you hang out.

I'm not defending those Brits that are <deleted> (they are an embarrasement), but let's have some sense of prespective, because clearly you don't. Refused a visa per chance? :o

Still think this thread should have been closed, if it was about Americans it would have.

I am a Brit, but not Athit.

I can be somewhat inebriated without others noticing.

I have a Thai wife, who has been known to say, Farang speak 2 mut. I heed her.
