Would You Let Your Wife Testify In A Trial For Tons Of Money..

So my wife was asked to testify in a upcoming big trial, in exchange for this she will get tons of money. But here is the tricky part, we know that the Victims lawyer will try to do anything to smear her or try to paint a bad picture of her to the jurors, so she wont be as credible. She has done nothing wrong, but we are sure that they will bring up anything they can do discredit her, this means EVERYTHING you have done, we are all humans and are not perfect, so please dont bash this post. I just want straight answers if you have any. So, would you let your wife testify in exchange for tons of money, yet she might get smeared?

Yes it was me asking for advice. I just moved here and my wife (american) was going to come and live here next week, but now she got the call about the trial, and does not know what to do, as neither do I.

Any man that would is no man at all.

She does not care, she saids she has nothing to hide, but I am more concern about her. I dont want her to go through anything that might upset her or even have all the stress about that case, you know?

This is a trial in the States then? Why is she getting paid tons of money - is she an expert witness?

This all sounds a bit bizarre to me...

Yes, she is a expert on this. But actually she has info about the case that can change the verdict. Thats why she said she didnt want to do it, so the legal team (victim's legal team, rich woman) offer her money to testify on her behalf, not lie, but to tell her story. From the start she said no because she was coming here etc, so thats when they offered her money. get it?

An American woman testifying in an American trial. While I'm sure she is a Decent American, I can't see the relevance to Thailand.

Well I live here now and she supose to come and move here with me next week, but now she got the call about the trial, and she dosent know what to do.

They are paying her satang. Apparently, tons of it.

Christ, I'd make her do anything for tons of money!
:o

Talk to her about your concerns. In the end, though, it's not up to you to "let" her or not, I think.

What I am asking is this: Would you let your wife take the stand in exchange for a lot of money?,but the other teams legal team will most probably try to discredit her, and whats the best way to do that? to try to smear her.So she saids she does not care and she has nothing to hide. But i Care about her, maybe it will be stressful for her, maybe it will be too much for her. Thats why I am asking. I know it is a decision between my wife and I, but i would like to know what some of you think.

Thanks

True. But if I asked her not to do it, she wouldnt. And If i said yes do it and she said no, then she wouldnt do it. Its up to both of us to decide, just wanted to know what some of you thought about this.

Why are you worried about her rep? Something you're not telling us?

If she's moving over here with you then her rep in the US is irrelevant really.

I had to testify in quite a big trial in the UK just after I moved here, by video link. It was quite fun actually, and the tosspots who nearly killed my mate got just what they deserved thanks to my testimony. Never worried about my rep when doing that.

Unless Tony Soprano had a mia noi and was planning on escaping to Thailand with her.

she dosent know what to do.

An "expert witness" that can change the verdict and she doesn't know what to do.

NO, I DON'T GET IT.

a paid witness

doesnt the "paid" part usually affect a person's credibility? especially if the person have vital information that will affect the case.

I never said WILL either. What are you worried about? An expert witness is someone who is a professional who is paid to render their professional opinion. If she is not really an expert as you say she is then she should not be being paid anything to testify in which case yes you should be very worried indeed.

Is that where all those 50 satang coins have gone?

No. Because most of the evidence is in a PC that she owns. It is her right to keep it and does not have to tell her part of the story if she doesnt want to. Thats why they have offered her money. It happens all the time in most big trials. If you cant get a legal document stating that she has to come to court then they offer money. This is not the DA's office, but the accused legal team.

then just do it. Its information in a PC.

Its not like they will be questioning her judgement or anything.

Do it, take the $$$ and live happily ever after in LOS.

And you ask this on an internet forum full of complete strangers?

Haven't you got mates, friends, or relatives?

The biggest smear on your wifes rep will be being paid by one side for testifying. Jeesas Christ, people...

All seems a bit weird to me. Surely if she has crucial evidence then she would be required to attend??

I know a consultant orthopedic surgeon and various colleagues in the property industry who are regularly called upon for expert witness work. These expert witnesses are usually paid for sharing their opinions on a matter.

It is of course likely that the other side will attempt to discredit them, but they don't see this as an issue as they have nothing to hide, which is why their opinions are valuable and can sway a case. The more reputable you are in this situation the better.

For example, experts might be asked to testify about how a reasonable professional might approach an assignment. Their testimony could be used to discredit a report / research used as evidence by the other party.

Let me get this straight... your wife is NOT an exhooker from Thailand... well what exactly are you worried about? They are going to try to make her look like a big meanie? I think you worry too much, they say a few insulting things and criticise truly minor and unimportant character traits, big deal. I dont think you realise who you are asking advice from on this forum... alot of these guys actually DO HAVE things to hide heh, your wife is probably an angel in comparison. :o
