They block some sites but don't block all of them I think. They don't do a real efficient job. Just to be clear, I am talking about the viewing of such porn within the privacy of your own home AND whilst minors are not present. What if you have a personal website to store the abovementioned photos/videos or if you use a website like "ratefun", & your explicit material is not available for public viewing? Also assume that this/these websites are hosted outside of Thailand & that your partner is not Thai. Of course, I also preclude all cases of "site hacking". Google it and some stories may come up. I don't know if your sexually explicit photos count as I haven't seen them. Can you send them to me? Just kidding. The problem is this law is not applied strictly in all cases. Let's just say hard-core porn is illegal in ever situation. Beyond that, I'm not sure exactly the law but I know sometimes they censor nudity in films in the cinema as I have seen this and yet other times they don't. The censors are extremely inconsistent. The censors are extremely inconsistent. I love the irony in censorship. I would never ever have any interest in watching some guy abusing a sheep or some girl abusing a dog. But yet some censorship board actually has to watch such things in order to make some governmental determination that such things are obscene, should be illegal and prevent others from having access to them. The same thing could be said for the "self-governing" rating body in Hollywood movies. By some strange logic a movie showing a head shot with a guy's brains getting blown out gets a PG, but a movie flashing some chick's boobs 'n pubes for 2 seconds or a single instance of the "eff word" immediately warrants an R. The whole concept is patronistic and puritanistic, not to mention just plain weird and warped. But even the rating system is a joke. When I was a minor, it was easy to get into R and X rated movies anyway. And there's much more access for today's kids. Getting back to the OP, in order for governments to censor and police internet traffic, many things have to take place. - The government has to have a mirror of the ISP's internet gateway. Or all internet gateways must be through government systems, like they do in China (but does anyone really want that?). - URL blockers, Access Control Lists, and other filtering mechanisms have to be intalled. - Someone has to monitor the traffic to identify and locate violators. - There has to be a means and method to enforce the law and prosecute violators. (and allow them a chance to bribe a prosecutor) Given that porn is ubiquitous on the internet and can be bought at many Bkk street marts, it may be illegal in Thailand. But like the flesh trade, there is clearly de facto tolerance. IMHO, much better to have these industries legalized, for the protection of the workers, and so it can be subjected to the same types of regulation and taxation as any other business. Some of the emerging Web2.0 technologies may make it easier for wanna-be censors to do their thing. But like almost everything else, the answers don't lie within the halls of the central government. It starts with the parents educating the children, and maintaining some discipline and control over them while they are minors residing in the home. To treat the sad plight of the worlds poorer people with a few emoticons should be illegal too, but it isn't. Pornography and prostitution are illegal in Thailand as in many other countries, yet it don't stop untold thousands of Farangs flying halfway round the world to break Thailands laws does it ? I would be perfectly happy if Prostitution were legalized and controlled in such a way it would be just as cheap for Western sex tourists to stay in their own country and exploit drug addicted hookers that prowl the cities of UK, USA etc, instead of travelling the globe to expolit the poor and disadvantaged. The more porn, the less promiscuous sex. The more promiscuous sex, the more STD's and unwanted pregnancies. Thais being a practical people, that is probably why it is illegal while also being widely available. More likely reason: its fun and all the lawmakers like it too.
