Loaded Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 All the teachers, Thai and farang, have been told by a private school they work for in Chiang Mai, not to wear yellow on Mondays anymore because outside the school they may be mistaken for PAD supporters and attacked! Everyone knows Monday is Yellow day, so I think it seems a strange request. I love Thailand
zaphodbeeblebrox Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 At my government school in Rayong, we were ordered to wear yellow on Mondays. Then again, the entire school administration marched in a PAD rally in Rayong last month!
Ijustwannateach Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 At the beginning of the year, our manager had already told us about this. Many teachers continued anyway. However, of late, on the BTS on Mondays I detect far fewer wearers than before.
mizzi39 Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 The Govt. school that I work for (in Issan) sent a memo advising us not to talk about the political situation, since many of the Thai teachers and administrators are divided over this issue. There was no mention about a change in the dress code.
Scott Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Well, if there is a division on the issue, then talking and communication is NOT what you want to do, right?
Gumballl Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Well, if there is a division on the issue, then talking and communication is NOT what you want to do, right? That's correct. Non-elected gov't employees (officers?) should not bring their political viewpoints/commentary to the office. Only away from their work-place should they be permitted to discuss "issues". While at work, they serve the public at-large, not a particular party or interest. Concerning yellow shirts, what a horrible color. Perhaps some one will choose puke-green next time?
PeaceBlondie Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Sir Elton John, large glasses and all, would probably fit right in here.

That's incredibly stupid and offensive to say in Thailand if you know why they chose yellow. I'll leave it to you to find out.
