If I need a "B" Type can I get it in Thailand based on this "O" Type or not? After this 15 months that I can use my Non Inmigrant Visa doing every 90 days the Visa Runs if I have a work permit Can I extend my Visa in Thailand? For how much time?

Finally, If a Multientry "B" Type before I leave to Thailand is the solution Can I get it from Hull with a letter of invitation of a Thai Company?

Yes, you can apply for a work permit in Thailand after having entered the country with a non-O visa.

You can get a work permit on any non immigrant visa with the exception of the ED (education) type.

Also when you extend a non immigrant O based on retirement, chances for a work permit become very slim. Extension based on marriage is not a problem for a work permit.

After you used your multiple entry visa for 15 months the only way to get another one is at a consulate/embassy outside of Thailand. In Europe you'll normally will get a multiple entry B visa when you have a work permit.

In Asia not all embassies/consulates will give the multi entry one, but which will give single entry or double entry can change from month to month, so you'll have to check back here when you will have to get one.

Another solution would be when the company you work for qualifies to get you a 1 year extension based on employment. They will need to have enough Thai employees and enough turn over in the previous accounting year to qualify. As a panish national your salary will have to be over 50,000 Baht/month.

If you do qualify, immigration will convert your non immigrant O to a non immigrant B (fee 2,000 Baht) and then extend for a year in one time (fee 1,900 Baht).

Only drawback in this scenario is when you lose your job, you also loose your extension of stay and have to leave Thailand the same day your work permit gets canceled. A 7 day extension is possible in that case at a 1,900 Baht fee.

Hi All,

I have few questions for possibly Maestro.

I have been offered a teaching job in my Thai hometown and she (EP boss) advised me to get a type B visa. After reading the forum, it appears that by having this visa, the school has big control over me by if they fire me and cancel my WP, I have to get out of town quickly or pay the fee for 7 day extension (which is practically enough money to get a multiple entry tourist visa at the border).

Few questions:

How are working people, lets say teachers, staying in Thailand year after year and not returning to their home country or embassy outside Thailand to renew their Type B visa, if that is what visa they are working on? (Must be renewable based upon employment in country, whereas type O is not?)

What about a teacher who is fired and wants to teach at another school...do they have to go back home and start the type B visa process again?

What are the consequences, short term and long term, of entering on an O instead of a B if I want to stay consecutive years and be a teacher?

Can O be converted to B in country if need be to stay and work?

I just want to be in control of my destiny as much as possible, given the possibility of coming to Thailand for a few years.

I will be old enough at this time next year to take advantage of the retirement scheme and can meet the requirements, I would just rather work to make some income and not sit around thinking what am I doing here???...lol.

I cannot extend an O based on marriage at this time or anytime soon because of lack of monthly income requirement.

Regards,

Martian

I don’t know what you mean with “EP” but it does not matter. Unless you have a valid reason for another type if visa you have no choice but to get a non-B visa and subsequently to get extensions of stay for employment.

They do not “renew their Type B visa” but get annual extensions of stay for employment.

...What about a teacher who is fired and wants to teach at another school...do they have to go back home and start the type B visa process again?...

If they cannot get a new work permit within the 7-day extension of stay they can get for 1,900 Baht after the termination of employment they go to a neighbouring country and get a visa; they do not have to go back to their home country. Later, when they have the new work permit they get an extension of stay.

...What are the consequences, short term and long term, of entering on an O instead of a B if I want to stay consecutive years and be a teacher?

After entering on a non-O visa you do not change to a non-B visa, but if you do not qualify for another type of extension of stay, eg to live with Thai wife, you can, after having entered Thailand with a non-O visa, apply for an extension of stay for employment.

...Can O be converted to B in country if need be to stay and work?

After having entered Thailand on any type of non-immigrant visa you cannot change the type of visa at an immigration office. What you do is choose the reason for your application for extension of stay. It is important not to confuse Visa and extension of stay.

Maestro,

Thank you for your answers.

Yes, I understand the extension to stay vs. the visa. So, it is possible to get a non-B from a border country and not have to go back to your own country???

When you say "get a visa", what type of visa are you making reference to, type "B"? If so, doesn't one need some form of invitation letter or such for work to secure the initial type B, which means they will have had to already have had a job lined up??

EP is short for English Program.

Thank you again!

¡Hi again!

I would like to ask you if it is reliable and possible that a Thai legal services company offers me a Thai Non Inmigrant "B" Visa without any job offer in Thailand?

Thanks again,

Cheers,

With the correct documents, yes. You need a lot more than just an invitation letter from the company that wants to employ you. Such invitation letter only may have worked for you last time in your home country and might perhaps work again in that country, but for a non-B visa in a neighbouring country you need a heap of documents from your prospective employer and the receipt for the work permit application (Form WP3)
