Wifi Antenna In Ko Samui

Featured Replies

Hey.

Does anyone know where i can get a wifi Antenna from in Ko Samui? Or does Thailand have an ebay equaliant that i can order one from? Or a thai amazon or major distrubtion?

Thank you.

do you mean like a wifi extender? If just for a small area, a homemade one works pretty well.

we did this and it definitely extended the range of our wifi

what kind of connector is the one on your card?

A friend of mine paid 14000 baht for a wifi USB gizmo and pays 800 baht a month for usage. I have never heard of this before but it sounds extortionate to me. It apparently can be used anywhere in Thailand though and you don't need a phone line for it...

I've got this one from Baan Computer, Ban Tai (Phangan) and it cost 11'800 and I pay ~750 a month. From CAT and also don't need a phone line! It is pretty good.

That is not wifi, but rather using a mobile card -- ie connecting to a mobile network via the card. Wifi merely connects to an already existing signal. OP needs to be clearer about what exactly he or she is looking for, I think.

I recall reading that someone made one of these out of a pringles can..

If you are handy you might consider googling it and see if you can do it yourself.

impossible as the cable is as specific as the connector, the people making antenna have a "pigtail" that fits the connector of their card.

Guess nobody told this guy it was impossible:

i guess it's not easy for a beginner to understand, but wifi isn't tv cable or electric cable, the frequencies used are totally different and a lot higher, not resisting to interferences and having a special "impedance" wich is 50 ohms compared to classical tv cables (75ohms) not to mention the reverse polarity connectors wich are almost impossible to find in retail shops.

if you have a look at your two links and search (ctrl+f) for the word pigtail in both pages, you'll see the notice of the guy regarding this.

building an antenna yourself if very easy but it can't be used without the proper pigtail previously bought.

on a side note, those cantennas are no way better than omnidirectionnal high gain antenna, the more far is the target point, the harder it is to calibrate the cantenna properly, 1mm too much to the left on your side might mean 50 meters too much on the left on the target side...

Nope, didn't say it was easy, just felt the word "impossible" seemed a tad strong.

Buying over the internet is possible, naturally, but I am sure customs would slam you with fees on arrival. Best bet if you can't find anything in thailand (and you might try the links in the computer forum faq section) is to have someone bring it over if possible.

I can get hold of any type of Antenna you need. If you want something similar to the cantenna, then you should try a YAGI antenna.

I have a 16dbi Yagi sat beside me, with pig-tail (N-Type Male to RP-SMA) if you're interested.

PM me...
