'Full moon party' undeterred by Muifa' storm

SURAT THANI: -- More than 15,000 revellers, who attended the full-moon party on Thailand's southern island of Pha-ngan in Surat Thani on Friday night, were unaffected by the “Muifa” depression, according to local officials.

The storm had passed before the festivities were due to start, and the local authorities decided it was safe for the party to go ahead as planned, the

provincial governor, Vijit Vichaisan, told TNA.

The ferry services between Pha-ngan and Samui island, which had been suspended before the storm hit the area, had also been resumed, the governor added.

More than 15,000 tourists joined in the full-moon party, which coincided with the Loy Krathong festival, according to the Pha-ngan district chief,

Pornlert Chokchai.

Between 20,000 and 30,000 foreign tourists usually attend each full-moon party on the island, he said.

The island’s full-moon parties have made Koh Pha-ngan popular with tourists.

It would have taken a typhoon to keep most of them away anyway.

And frankly, no typhoon could do as much damage to the beach at Hadrin as the FMP does each month!!!

Not a good time to eat a mushroom omlette.

What's the significance of a full moon party anyway? I thought it was Loi Kratong, although that sentiment may well pass many partygoers by.
