Multiple Entry On A 60 Day Tourist Visa?

Featured Replies

if i have a 60 day tourist visa, could i leave Thailand after, say, 10 days, be out of the country for 4 days or so, and then return and stay through the end of my original 60 days? or do i forfeit the length of my 60 day visa by leaving the country and re-entering?

thanks!

ps. US passport, travel starting in US

Unless you get a re-entry permit, that visa dies. A double entry visa might be a simpler option for you, or delay your departure from Thailand.

There is nothing wrong with applying for a re-entry permit, and returning within the first 60 days, and continuing the rest of that 60 day stay.

Or doing the same during the second 60 days, for that matter.

I know you lot don't like this but in the past two weeks I know two people that have asked not to have their Non-imm activated (as they were leaving shortly after they arrived) on entry but rather to activate it after they've returned (from Laos & Vietnam). They said it was very easy, so maybe try this first and then go for the re-entry permit (if need be) it will save you a little bit of money!

Not sure about everybody else but it sounds like a feasible option, after all you if you qualify for a 30 day exemption stamp the Non Imm will be still be valid for use when you return.............or am i missing something Dr P.P...Lop? Or is it tied in with your reason for visit in the first place..i.e 1st visit you are a tourist then you return a few days later visiting family or whatever grounds the Non Imm was issued? :o

Everyone that I know of that has tried (4 or 5 people overall and 2 in the last couple of weeks) hasn't had any kind of problem at all!

I think DR PP said before they don't have to do it (and maybe shouldn't do it?), but like I said no problems for anyone I've told to try it!

The rules actually say that no visa can be reserved for later use :o I think it is brave to tell people that it is quite OK to do it.

I'm not telling people it's okay to do it. I told them to try it and so far Immigration have been fine about it! So no bravery involved at all! It's just a suggestion and what's the worse that can happen? They say no?

Don't the rules also say it's kind of up to the individial Imm officers discretion in regards to most things Visa related here in Thailand? Thus if this is the case there's absolutely no harm in trying as it will be down to the individual officer and how he inteprets (or if he's even heard of) the rules in regards to activating or not activating a Visa?

Cant find anything in the Rules And Regs ,i/m sure Dr's right........i suppose they could knock you back on the grounds that you obtained the Non Imm visa for non tourist purposes and then arrive claiming to be a tourist on the 1st visit. Ive posted on Immigration 3 board to see what they say on the matter (thats if they answer of course). They/ll probably say that you should be applying for a Non Imm multi entry in the first place. :o

Yes but a lot of places (in these two examples Paris and New Zealand Embassies) won't issue multiple entries, even with the correct paperwork!

I think if you just tell Imm the truth (as these two people did) and say "look I'm only here for a few days and then I'm going to wherever, so can you please just give me 30 days on entry and I'll activate my Non-imm whatever when I return" you'll be fine, like I said they can only say no can't they? The people I know of where upfront and honest about it, seems Imm aren't quite as miserable as some people think (myself included at times).

So yes they are indeed a tourist on the initial entry, but then they plan to look for work etc. So nothing really naughty IMO!

I know people that have only been stamped 30 days on entry 'cos the officer didn't see their Non-imm stamp/sticker!

We have strayed a little off topic.......as far as the original poster is concerned follow Dr P.P's advce and get a double entry tourist visa before leaving home, it/ll be a lot less hassle.

Sorry!

What would be cheaper though getting a double tourist Visa or getting a re-entry permit to use with the initial entry if the OP goes for a single?

Six and Two Threes.......just getting the double saves the hassle of having to apply for the re-entry permit while here.

I'm a bit lazy, so I'd go for the easiest option which in my view is a double entry TR visa.

That makes two of us!

I meant the monetary costs involved. What is it in the US nowadays per entry? Around $25 USD? pretty much the same cost either way? As a single re-entry permit is around a 1,000 Baht?

Aye Ken its virtually same cost wise ....a double entry tourist is $50 and a single $25 plus 1000 baht (approx $25) for a single re-entry permit. A multi re-entry permit is 3800 baht. Big advantage in getting the double as opposed to arriving with single tourist visa and trying to reserve its use to a later date is that if you get "knocked " back you are going to have to use the single entry to enter the first time and then have the hassle of applying out of the country for a second single entry tourist visa (this assumes your second stay is in excess of 30 days of course, which was on the OP's mind)

The effort they go to just to avoid getting appropriate visa's ! Unbelievable :o

Give up old man.

Do you not realise this post is a set up to test your knowledge on visa issues.

Or lack thereof.
