Anyone Here Know A Good Treking Guide ?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi Folks,

Posted this on the CM forum but thought as a lot of trekking goes out of Chiang Rai these days so thought would post it here as well if anyone has any ideas.

In Chiang Mai in December and I need to take a group of friends trekking...I last did it 20 years back..changed I know but this has to be done. I know a lot of the guides freelance and I'm not really into paying the loading the companies charge, would rather give the guide a good deal. So does anyone know a good guide, any recommendations ? Thanks.

Ps. Will have three fairly adventurous 13 year olds and their Mums with me so any suggestions about some good travel lodges, fun places, maybe elephant riding or whatever would be welcome.

Cheers.

If you want to go to Maehongson there is a very good guide there named Jan. He is an expert in the area's flora and fauna and can vary the trek from a half/full day trek to 4/5 days. His knowledge is vast and he's a very pleasant little fellow. He took me and my daughters on a day trek and they loved it. A few years ago I trekked to Pai with him staying in hill tribe villages. I've mislaid his phone number, but if you contact Porn at Maehongson Guest House in MHS she will put you in touch with him. That is, if he hasn't been consumed by a tiger since I last saw him.
