engrin
My employer is telling me that I have to tell them what my tax number is. Seems strange to me, thought this would be something the employer would provide to the employee. But this is Thailand so I guess I'll have to get it myself. Do I just turn up at the local tax office with passport and work permit and ask what my tax number is? Do I need any other documentation?

I had the same thing from my ex employer. You need to apply for a TIN (taxpayer identification number) you can do it online. I have had a quick look and can't instantly see exactly where, but look at www.rd.go.th in the e-revenue sections. I have a feeling it may only be in the Thai language parts so you may need some help. It instantly will give you the number once you fill in the online form.
