A friend of mine is here on a 1 year extension (non-immigrant O), he is a Swedish citizen but born in Thailand. I had a discussion with him recently re: his 90 days reports. He said that this have to be done personally by him, and it is not possible to use mail.

Going to the immigration office was very convenient before when they were located at the Novotel at the airport. But not so anymore, this is after they moved to another location. It is said that it's difficult to get a taxi after you are done, unless you tell him to wait for you. (People who live near the airport don't want to go to Soi Suan Plu.)

My question: can he do the report by mail instead of going to the immigration office personally, every 90 days?

Yes, he can do it by mail. The immigration website says so and many members are doing it without any problem. The fact that he was born in Thailand makes no difference.

Immigration link for 90 day reports. Includes mail info.

Yes, easy to do by mail, but two points here:

-- Use a baht 10 stamp on the self addressed envelope, the www site is not up to date;

-- I normally send my report via EMS rather than registered. And be SURE to keep the postal receipt, it has a tracking number on it so you can check on the www when your report is received at Immigration.

lopburi 3 always used to say that they were not too happy with people living in Bangkok doing this as it was really for people who lived out of the way.

Anybody in Bangkok use this?

Yes, I remember several posts by members who said they were told that by Suan Phlu immigration, as well as many posts by members living in Bangkok who continue to report by mail without a problem

Just a little bit of information. If you go to link provided and look towards top right side of page you will see Thai script click this and it will change page to Thai and then scroll down and you will find the address in Thai. Using Thai for mailing address might speed the mail delivery up a little.

very true!

Have been told a few times to go in person or send a messanger in the past.

(handwritten notes attached to my return slip) but always ignored them and did my reporting by mail anyway.

I'm located in Tungkruh, Bangkok.

Have been doing the reports by mail since they started the service and never had any real problem (occasionally had to wait 3-4 weeks for the slip to arrive).

I just did my report: mailed by EMS on 02.10.08 (due date was 06.10.08) and got my papers back today 11.10.08.

There's a large Thai Post Office right next to Suan Plu Immigration so EMS letters may well go there for distribution.
