I am a very old falang who has lived through many operations here in Thailand without a worry in the world about surgery by local doctors. BUT, Since reading about the number of doctors who refused to aid their own policeman, I now am worrying about an up and coming operation at the very hospital where these doctors work! What if the doctor who performs my operation has been upset, or has a long lasting anger against falangs decides to let slip the knife just a little? :o Any and all advice will be appreciated.

Any time you go under the knife you can die....as long as you do not P1ss off the surgeon you should be ok.

You've already said you have been well treated before...and 'lived through many operations'...you'll be fine

Just spend 50,000 baht on a party before it all kicks off....just in case

I imagine you will be fine. The doctor wants money, that is why the surgery is being done... (other than your health issue)

BTW, in my humble opinion, it is very rare you will ever meet an ethical doctor. But I don't think you will meet doctors wanting or willing to kill people. Steel their money yes, kill no.

Maybe you don't know. The bill gets paid whether the patient survives or not in this country! My wife gets the third degree before each operation to make sure she can afford to pay the bill. :o But thanks for the Post.

Well pay in advance shows confidence

With holding payment shows no confidence

Asking him and his wife to have dinner afterwards...and offer to pay shows supreme confidence.. :o

But of course if it goes wrong you won't be there to pay!

ok

Good luck - you'll sail through it.

Try tattooing his under-age daughter's phone number just over the operation site, that should do the trick.

(This is a suicide thread isn't it..? :o )

I know that, it is just that killing off your customer base makes no since. You pay for your water before you drink it, but you do not hear of the water bottle company killing people... Milk, well that is a different story.

Obviously not all Thai doctors are the same and it depends on the doctor.

However even those at the lowest end of the scale ethics-wise would be very unlikely to intentionally harm a patient during surgery.

I'd worry more about the doctor's qualifications and competence and less about his possible political beliefs or racial biases. That said, I also wouldn't discuss politics with him...but then these days I wouldn't do that with any Thai whom I didn't know well.... :o
