WHICH ASUS MINI NOTEBOOK TO BUY?

Soon to retire here in Bangkok. Need to buy own notebook. Not tech savvy. Will continue to do part time work across Asia, therefore small size and low weight important.

My Needs are: basic word documents, PowerPoint, very basic Excel spreadsheet work, internet.

Have many suggestions to buy 17 / 19 inch flat monitor, and ASUS mini notebook and to look for:

-1.6 processor or higher

-1024 RAM

-At least 100G hard drive (need to store perhaps 60 to 70 large PowerPoint files (e.g. 100

slides per file)

-Windows XP

-Including better battery if possible

One recommendation so far is to buy white color case/keyboard, but I’m not sure whether this is just a personal liking of white or has some other significance.

Would appreciate all comments about specs., and any details members can share please about price and where to buy (preferably in Bangkok but Pattaya also a possibility).

All advice very welcome, thanks.

Remember you can always use portable drives or small flash drives to save your power point files so disc size is not so relevant

As an aside if you are intending to work on a retirement visa even part time you will need a work permit. Sounds as if there are problems with this especially if you are being obvious like giving Power Point Presentations.

If you do not need to make the Power Point on the little machine you can use a free Power Point Viewer from Microsoft.

If you really need long battery life you could go for one that has a solid state hard drive rather than a normal one. THey are small but fast and save batteries.

I linked a 15.4" laptop to a 22" monitor.

What a PITA that was.

Not able to close the laptop meant it attracted dust like flies on a dead roo.

Get a cheap pc and marry a flat monitor to that.

Can't advise on those mini laptops as I don't have one.

good luck m8. :o

Thanks for the cooments about work permit. In fact i've had a work permit for nearly 20 years and it will continue under an arrangement with my employer. Already had this checked very carefully, the arrangement is totally legal, my employer would not enter into any tricky arrangements on things like this, and I wouldn't want any tricky arrangements.
