Looking For A Doctor

Hi,

My question is similar but not the same as yesterday's sufferer with kidney stones. I've moved here recently with my husband and two children, bringing with me a few months supply of medication I need to take regularly, and a letter from my doctor in England, detailing my condition.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for good English speaking doctors, who I could consult intially, and hopefully obtain regular prescriptions from. It would be good if I can find someone who is also good with children.

I've made a note of Dr Sharins' name from yesterdays post and will try and locate him. It would be good to hear from anyone else who has a good doctor.

Thanks

Chrissy.

Chrissy, thanks for asking. It matters if your medications are for special conditions that require a specialist's diagnosis, etc. For example, I could only start getting Ritalin after a neurologist diagnosed me. Two local hospitals in Chiang Mai have every specialty: Chiang Mai Ram, and Maharaj Special Services Clinic. Look in the first couple of pages here in the Chiang Mai forum, to see topics with those titles. If you see other topics that apply to your specialty, try there. Good luck.

If a good General Practitioner (as we know them in the UK) is appropriate, I can thoroughly recommend Dr Tawachai at Loi Kroh Clinic - 62/2 Loi Kroh Road (opposite Wat Loi Kroh) & Tel. 053 271571. Excellent English, warm character and very diligent. As others have said elsewhere, also very reasonable/fair prices. If there should be anything outside his abilities to attend to, I'm sure he would be able to refer the patient to an appropriate specialist. On occasions when I've been there, I've seen plenty of kids in the waiting room - so, unless/until specialist paediatric attention is required, I would say he also fits the bill for your children.

Try a search (top right of the page) for "doctor" in this sub-forum and you'll see other options.

Savitri-Sharin Clinic is excellent. Dr. Sharin is fluent in english and has practiced in the U.S. and other countries. His wife is a pediatrician and practices at the same location. Telephone 275330. Outside of the moat not far past D.K. Books and opposite the Mad Dog Saloon. I believe his hours are 9AM-11AM and 5:00PM-8:00PM.

Totally agree with Chrissy, Mr. & Mrs Sharin are excellent doctors. Both speak perfect English and are very friendly. I have been going there for 4 years every time I get sick, never had anything to complain.

Cheers :o

A more serious search will show that there have been very mixed reviews about Loi Kroh Clinic.

Based on my own experiences, and those I have read of other's, I would not recommend Dr. Tawachai.

As stated above, Savitri-Sharin Clinic at 95/2-3 Kochasarn Road Telephone 0-5327-5330 is highly recommended.

In a choice between Dr Sharin and Dr. Tawachai I would use Dr Sharin every time. Tried them both and had a friend who had visited a number of hospitals in Chiang Mai (including CM Ram) and only Dr Sharin was able to diagnose correctly! Drugs maybe expensive but thats going to be the same almost everywhere.

Better to have the correct treatment than worry about a few hundred baht.

@ Femi Fan, you are right, quite expensive, but hey, you want the best you pay the price...

You're not wrong mate! I just had an expensive experience there with my girlfriend earlier this year. Everything was good about him and his clinic, but i thought he was really taking the piss with his drugs prices.

But if i had a real health issue, i'd be over to him again.
